I recently got a 'new-old-stock' Cherry G80-HR8113HRDUS-2 keyboard. I used it to get some Cherry DS keycaps.

I checked the feel of the keyboard before removing the keycaps. When I removed the keycaps, they appeared to me to be Cherry MX 'browns'.

See the attached picture. But I was under the impression that the browns were supposed to be 'tactile', so I expected to feel a slight 'bump' when pressing down the keys.

Instead, it feels 'smooth' (as far as I can tell) when pressing them down.

Can anyone tell if these look like Cherry MX 'Brown ' switches? Is this how they feel (smooth)?

Those are indeed browns. They are tactile, but just a little. They could be worn out over time.
Also, some describe browns as dirty reds (which are linear without tactility).

They shouldn't be worn out from use. This was sold as never having been used (and at least appeared to be 'New-In-Box').

I guess the feel could just be more subtle than I'm expecting. As far as I can tell, this was made in 2006.

Press it very slowly. If you feel a little "scratch", that's the tactility of browns :p

You're right.

I did type on it for a minute or two before I took off the keycaps, and it seemed o.k. to type on.

But, It's a lot more subtle than I was expecting.

I have a keyboard with a set of Cherry MX Blues and it seems the tactile effect is more noticeable. But then again, it's hard for me to ignore the click and concentrate only on the feel of the blues...

The blue tactility is indeed stronger. If you kinda want the tactility of blues without click, you have to try "Ergo Clears"

My first experience with Cherry-switches was a Compaq track-ball board with Browns .
I absolutely HATED it ! So much that I didn't give the rest of the Cherry-line a fair chance for YEARS !
(At the time I was on a 1992 IBM Model M and the Cherry Browns just felt like mushy mud .)
This is the Cherry-switch that you either LOVE or LOATHE !
I loathe it, but others think it's the best compromise-switch ever ..
Ain't it great how people aren't the the same ?

concur. I jumped in and bought a brown das thinking they'd feel like blues but sound like nothing. haha, wrong! 'dirty reds' is most apt.
