Are these switches worth it? I loved my buckling spring keyboard but it was too old-fashioned so it had to go.
I assume MX greens would please even some heavy bear-hands?
Also, would these be okay for gaming? Has anyone tried a keyboard fully loaded with them?

There are a few people who have modified or built custom keyboards to have only greens, yes.

The tactile bump is the same as on MX Blues, but because the spring is harder the tactile feel is relatively diminished.

MX Blues and Greens have hysteresis, just as the buckling springs, and some gamers don't like it.
If you were happy gaming on buckling springs, the greens should work for you. It depends on the games you play and your style of using the keyboard when playing those games.

BTW, have you looked at Unicomp's buckling spring keyboards in a smaller case? They are practically the same internally as the old ones, but the case is slightly smaller, available in black or Mac version and you can now choose to have one with USB and/or a trackpoint.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think buckling springs have any hysteresis whatsoever since they register when the spring buckles, which is the same mechanism that determines the tactile feedback?

Yes, I thought hysteresis was an MX Blue (Green) thing. If BS do have it, it's much less pronounced. I've used both, and it's very detectable in Blues. With Blues, I think o-rings help a lot. They also prevent the bottoming out clack.

I made a gamer pad out of a Access IS 14x6 modded to ghetto greens as an experiment and I liked it for a little bit. I do really prefer softer switch like reds primarily, so take what I say for what it may be.
It has it's plus and minus from blues, which I do also use occasionally. While I do really like blues/greens for certain things, they do have their hiccups in fast action games where you need to 'spam' a key, as the reset is a little off from the bump, as you would hopefully now be aware from the prior posts. However the hysteresis can become used to in some instance with acclimatization to the switch, so it may or may not be an issue to the individual. I quite miss my custom Access gamer pad, and wish I would have held on to it now, but a nice trade deal of a Leopold FC200R with reds got the better of me. C'est la vie.

They do have hysteresis since the activation point and the de-activation point are different.

Yeah, it's very pronounced on some boards actually. Typing something like ... on my old Model F is actually quite tricky.

The whites seem to be somewhat available... I didn't really get on with them though, at least, not on my weakling pinkys! Blues with clear springs would be the closest (but not massively different from blacks).

As someone who loved the buckling spring mechanism, I found mx blues to feel cheap and flimsy. Mx greens have a bit more force but don't compare at all. That being said if you like the feel of mx blues and want something requiring more force mx greens are the way to go.

hmm, didn't think of that, but Cherry sez black is the same force as blue. Clears are a little bit more but only greys and greens have the crazy forces.

Ballpoint springs might be worth a try. This place has them by the 50, though i don't know how strong they'd be. The BPS1 model seems to have the right diameter.

I have a poker with a full set of greens for sale if you want to try it out!

I just took apart my greens and whites and here is a list of differences I saw:

Greens have green stems and white "clickers" (not sure what that's called. It slides and provides the click)
Whites have white stems and black "clickers"

I measured the springs, and they look completely identical. I also closely examined the "clickers", and they also appear to be the same.

Since I prefer the colour green to white, anyone want to buy my 100 or so plate mount whites?

Well, CCs you can actually see in normal use, but yeah, we are a picky bunch.

and what about the sound? i've tested whites and blues and the blues are way louder. white's have the "soft" click and its easier to activate. how does that compare to greens?
