well, I wouldn't call myself a young kid anymore, but that's only me. But imho most people over at GH act childish. Not only the "young kids". But I would love to visit a keyboard party with you guys anyway!

But what do I say. I'm typing this on a keyboard which is a few month older than me, and some keyboards I own are a lot older than me. Model F e.g.

I did try the Dell Quietkey. It felt like a rubber dome, although not as terrible as an ordinary rubber dome keyboard.

Some other stuff I found interesting:

Realforce vs HHKB: Some people have commented on the difference in feel. I found the difference noticeable but minimal, like the difference between an IBM XT and AT keyboard.

Truly Ergonomic keyboard: it looks cute and has mechanical switches, which is a lot for an ergonomic keyboard. However, I found it to be a drawing board design. It really should have been split, does have no feet whatsoever, and the position of the directional keys isn't very nice - it should have made the thumbs important instead of the weaker fingers.

Big Cherry key stabilizer mod: much better.

MrInterface's Topre switch try keys: A Topre key with or without the spring - very little difference. Actually the spring seems to make it a tiny bit more mushy.

One fun fact I noticed was that Webwit's V5000 Prototype used g80-1000 feet, while the production model 5000 uses feet Ive seen on the "modern" g83 boards. They feel less solid and cheaper. The prototype is built a lot thicker and more solid, I very much prefer this pre-series construction. I'll have to see how it is once I get my own 5000 from peter.

I was very happy to be able to try the uTron, because I no longer feel the need to buy one. It just isn't right for me.
Other things I found incredible to try were the Truly Ergonomic (I hate the backspace placement), the various treasures in 7bit's boxes of stuff, and the rollermouse. Completely blown away by the mouse...I am going to need to pick one up...if anyone wants to sell theirs, get in touch with me.

Thanks again to everyone for bringing the great amount of keyboards to try out and play with, risking treasures to grabby boardhead hands.

I did not mention this yet, but I got to reimburse Dirge for sending us the cherry stuff. All the stuff eventually ended up being sold and the last pens/bags were handed out for free just before everybody left.

Was very very surprised to notice that it's NOT fullsize keys on the board! It will really take some adapting to get used to the tighter spacing, but it did look slick.

Truly Ergonomic
Tested for just a few seconds, nothing serious at all, but was immediately bothered by the buttons in the middle collumn; they really didn't mesh with my fingers somehow.


Also didn't anybody get the memo? The 'group' pic was of the strippers alone...

I'm jealous, that would have been amazing to try all of those boards. There are quite a few there that I would love to own and I'm sure I'll never see in person.

I noticed an absence of cheetos, pizza and potato chips in the background.

You should have a contest for those who didn't attend. Whoever is closest to matching screen names to the photo gets their choice of the keyboards photographed.

No need, I think I already did when Limmy mentioned the Korean knew long ago that the earth was round.

Mostly just glad people got to notice it in person, even demonstrated to CeesA how to do it; having him be willing to have a board of his possibly demolished for it (just the numpad, was going for TKL; but still, the willingness counts).

One thing I forgot to mention, I was severely impressed by the Kinesis (Advantage)! It is WAY smaller than I'd ever imagined, and feels very nice; ofcourse only felt her up very slightly, but I think I might have to get one at some point.

thanks. Regarding the layout, and me liking the board I actually assume that it's an 1x1 matrix under all those blue 2x1 keys and that it's programmable, thus making it an effectivly ~120key board. Maybe a too long shot, but I'm not too cheap to ask.. I have to look into Access boards some more I guess.

It is a 1x1 matrix. The key feel told me as much.
Not sure if that goes for all the spots though.

My personal highlights:
*I finally had a chance to try a TrulyErgonomic. But: I really like to have six non-modifier keys in my right hand home row (I need to have the dash under my right pinky in Dvorak).
*webwit's alu caps were impressive. As a matter of fact, anything webwit brought was impressive.
*HHKB/Realforce. Usually I prefer tactile switches but these Topres ... mmmmmhh, yummi. If only there was a hardware Dvorak version.
