[Wanted] [FOUND] Access-IS board with staggered/QUERTY keys

Hi all,

Im looking for a Access-IS POS board for a project (i would also be interested in any other programmable plate mounted MX NKRO board). It doesn't need to be in perfect condition just as long as the controller is still working like its supposed to and most of the buttons still work. Id also prefer it if the board comes with a complete (or as complete as possible) set of caps. Im hoping to spend somewhere between 20~40 euros.

Heres a couple examples of what id be interested in;

Please let me know if you have something up my alley!

Two keycap-cannibalized Access keyboards:

The coloured keycaps are engraved/infilled, most of the other ones are doubleshot.
The arrow keys on the upper keyboard are not original, but lasered Cherry keycaps instead.

Would sell for 20€ each or 35€ both + shipping (note they are heavy: upper one ~1,2 kg, lower one ~2,1 kg).

I must confess I don't really know if they work (since I never tried), but I'm confident they do. Of course I offer refund if they don't, but perhaps you should wait for other offers

And what about a Tipro instead? I have several with quite similar layouts (except for a touchpad).

Thanks for the reply! And.. erm.. i already have my location in my profile but thanks for the heads up anyways ;)

Those boards sure have been cannibalized allright ;) I do love the 'other' keycap on the lower one tho, makes me think of that 'any' key my dad keeps looking for all the time... I dont mind a couple missing caps but on these there's not a whole lot to work with. I think i will wait for what others may have to offer before i jump on this.

I did look into Tipro boards for a bit but all the ones i could find were not NKRO, do you happen to know what Tipro types are and are not NKRO?

I have been using a Tipro MID-QM128 (staggered qwerty keyboard) as my daily driver for several months now (and I do a huge lot of word/text processing)
It is not NKRO, but I never experienced the slightest problem with that. It does beep sometimes (I just don't know how to disconnect the beeper), but even then, every keypress is registered and appears in the correct order.

If you're looking for a keyboard with all qwerty keycaps present, I can offer one of those (no own pictures at the moment):

http://tipro.net/images/product_midpm128a_big.jpg
(both in beige).

I could also offer one of these:

but with a few missing keys and somewhat weird German layout (was used in a pharmacy as POS keyboard).

If you're interested, I'll post pictures tomorrow.
Tipro's real plus are the 4 layers, the versatile software and the fact you can combine keyboards to your own design:

Well, the problem is that i will use the board for quite a few different things where multiple keypresses have to be (and stay) registered as long as the keys are pressed... and im a bit afraid that's where xKRO will fail as this is quite different than just keeping order in the way you describe. I do really love the idea of having four layers tho.... why are there always these difficult choices? Why cant they all just have NKRO and a zillion layers to play with :p

Well yeah, ive been looking into a teensy build a bit but its too much trouble for me right now tbh. They keyboard im hoping to make here will at first be used to control some computers that run a digital fuel injection and ignition system and i think that trying to support one half-ass project with another one is a bit of a gamble (im already having my hands full finding hickups as is, no need to add more complexity in the form of some ghetto keyboard build to the mix). So id rather grab something that works and do some quick chopping to make it fit.

Considering all that, I think the best thing for you would be to buy this on eBay:

~55€ shipped to NL, reliable seller (bought mine from him), with all keycaps (the blue arrow keys on mine were doubleshots, by the way), seller offers refund (except for shipping costs) if not satisfied.

Of course that would be more than you targeted at, but then you'd have a complete keyboard and could start using it at once.

Ah yes, that will be my backup plan if my WTB topic here fails. I've sent him a mail asking how much shipping would be for 2 of those but no reply yet.

How is the trackpad on large desktops' resolution. ?
On a compaq mx11800 it's way too slow.

Well, depending on how high a resolution youd like to know i can try it for you in a couple of days because i just bought the two boards posted above ;)

But cant you just change the speed under your computer settings anyways?

Depending on the OS you're running you might be able to work your way around that (or maybe even install specific software to switch different speeds).

Anyway, i will try to make a quick comparison for you between some different input devices but im hoping that i can install separate Glidepoint software for the touch pad that would allow this kind of tweaking under XP without too much of a hassle.....

Well Gilgam, i received the boards today and i quickly ran some test for you. I hooked up a nice old logitech driveless mouse to my computer, threw my resolution up to a whopping 2048x1536 and set the the mouse speed of my XP machine to nice useable speeds. I then hooked up the trackpad and using the same settings that worked great for the mouse the trackpad was pretty unuseable (needs a handfull of full pad swipes to get the cursos from one end of the screen to the other).

HOWEVER; The pad on this specific board is a Cirque 9920. I did not read into the specifics too much but the website clearly states that;
For custom functionality at the product design stage, we offer software that allows OEMs to enable, disable or personalize advanced settings and/or reprogram the touch sensitive area.

so this could mean that the pad is either programmable or that there might be separate drivers available possibly giving you the options of changing the sensitivity outside of the standard windows configuration. No guarantees tho.

Glad to be able to help!

An yeah, the boards are great! The small one is already in use and its doing just great. The big one didn't come with a cable but after tracing back some stuff i got it working just fine. The SDL cable layout is completely different from for example a model M but since its based on a Atmel AT89C52 its quite easy to figure out. Im seriously considering making that my daily driver board after i get some more caps, the possibilities on a big programmable board like that are just endless and width-wise its almost on par with my current board (6Gv2).
