[For sale] [Interest Check] Alucase for Phantom and Filco

So can we expect detailed instructions how to do this in the form of a term paper? :D

It's 305x80x23mm so it's nice and heavy :)

I think I'll make a Raffle for a single case that will have a bronze weight :D

Hi Swede,
I'm definitely interested in two, maybe more, of your cases. I'm happy to pay a premium over the regular price for materials and labor to get the brass plate inserts in them and have custom anodizing color. Please let me know if you would consider this additional service and what your pricing expectations would be.
Thanks a lot!

The problem is that that bronze is the only piece they have, and I get that for free.
And it is bronze, not brass. I've checked :) (i'm retarded, it's brass. 100% sure this time!)

I will not order brass or bronze to make several of these.
I wanted to put it into my own case to make it a bit more special. Since I can use that block to make 2 inserts I will make 2 cases with inserts.
And since I'm not paying for that insert I will not let anyone else pay for it either.
So in order to get it fair I will give a random buyer that case with the insert. You cannot order a bronze/brass insert.

I'm still making out a deal with the anodizer who will make the custom colours. But expect €100 minimum.

Edit: I know it's expensive, but that is what it costs.
Also I can't guarantee that the colours will match up since the anodizer who will make these is not the one I'm using for the main colour. It would be 280 euros for them to make a custom colour.

Edit2: derp, I need to check my facts twice before saying things ;) It's brass!

Would the price be the same if I asked for un-anodized?

Unfortunetly it will be the same.
The margin is quite low. I'm only making about €4 per case now since my school wanted me to pay toolingcosts

I'm not planning on making money. I just want to learn how to do stuff like this. That's why I'm in school!
I'm fine with earning nothing :)

Besides, it means that I get my case for free
It would have cost me far more to make just one!

Where exactly would find the space to insert bronze? It just seems like a plot to increase resonance to me :D

The thickness of the bottom piece is 8mm thick. I'll just mill out a slot for the block, or mill through the entire thing and make it so that you can see it from the outside. Not decided how I want it to look yet ;)

I've never seen anyone use a kensington. Libraries is the only place I've seen using them.
Don't see the need to ad a kensington lock.

Sure it would be cool to have, but is it really necessary?

Yet more bad news.. They just keep piling up don't they?

The schools workshop will be closed tomorrow. I really don't know how I missed that but I did T.T

So instead of showing you a prototype I will show the finished design renders tomorrow. Also the blocks from where the design will be made are coming in tomorrow, I just hope that I can pick them up as they come to the workshop.
Not nearly as interesting, I know, but better than nothing I guess...

A 1 day delay is nothing to worry about. Happy to see it progressing but I don't think there's any urgency needed. :)

Well, I'm just angry at myself for puttin a sceduale that is not compliant with delays.. also if I'm not done with the CNC-code and all of the logistics within 2 weeks this case will take a long time to finish!
I need to make sure that the prototype ships as fast as possible to make sure that the code is correct.
That is unless someone can give me a phantom plate and PCB before the end of next week. Then I can check on my own.

Guess I'm still naive and think that I can make anything if I put my time into it ;)

Already have one on it's way ;)

Bought one

Edit: I will later sell this keyboard. You will get a case with it. So anyone who misses the groupbuy later on can get a case atleast. Will however be SE layout.

A quick show of with a new and final design of the feet.
Decided to go with domed rubber as gripsurface. The rubber is made for Hi-Fi equipment, so they should be soft, grippy and absorb vibrations according the to text, will make my own judgement later ;)
Image

The front rubber is 2.5mm high. Red is 6mm, Blue is 11mm and Green is 15mm high.

Swede,

The renders look great!

I'm happy to pay a bit more than your costs. You should at least charge a bit extra to take care of any mishaps - little things can happen and they can add up. If you really don't want to make any profit, then I'm happy to pay a 'margin' that you might refund later.

Just trying to make sure you don't lose money and never want to make another batch of these.

Indeed I am :)

Some of you may wonder where my renders are. I decided to focus on making drawing for the parts instead and write some of the CNC code at home so that I have a quick start when I get back to the workshop tomorrow.
Lets see how crappy the code is

I also hope that I can use my friends lightbox to make some good pictures of the prototypes when they are done :)

This is water cut? How do they control the depth? ...I really don't know anything about machining.

Nice, this is going to save CNC time.

I don't think you can control depth, it cuts all the way through, if it is powerful enough.
