According to Solidworks it is about 1.3kg. This will change a bit until the final design is made.

I want it to feel like a solid chunk of metal and like it can survive a nuke at ground zero.

That's only when it's plugged into a Windows machine. When the same keyboard is plugged into a Mac or a Linux machine, they map to Option or Meta. Sorry, I'll stop being difficult now. :) As a Mac user I always replace the Windows keys with something else anyway and I definitely need the full row along the bottom for all of the OS X shortcuts, as cool as it would be to have a completely retro looking keyboard, I just can't make that work in my daily use. If we can get the price down, I'd definitely like one, and I agree that the LED-less version looks nice and clean.

Glad to hear that

But I absolutely hate stuff that have any sort of play. I want it to sound like quality when you put it together ;)

Made some early versions of the feet. First plan was to have a integrated foot that ran across the back. But that limited it to a tilted state only. Also made it way to expensive.

No threads in pictures since I suck. But will be M10 that will screw into the base of the keyboard. That will add 5 or 10mm (not decided yet) and the other foot will be able to screw into the first foot and will add another 5 or 10mm depending on what you want! Will have both heights for foot Number 2 :)

Remember that this is the first version, so will change when I think it through a bit more

Is the winkeyless render for 1.5x mods or 1.25x mods?

Used a G80-1000 as a mockup. Should be 1.5x unless I'm mistaken.
I might be wrong with sizes, since I just measured for 20seconds or something ;)

Update on the Feet!
Decided to ditch the last design and settled for making 3 feet with different heights.
You will have the option of 5, 10 or 15mm. All will be included!
Image

The 15mm looks a bit wonky, so that may change a bit.

Also the last changes for the design is soon to be complete thanks to litster :)

Ähm, if you put feet under the back of the case, the keyboard will stand angled.
This way the bottom of these feet would not touch the table flat but only on the front edge...

I know this :)

Just lazy and not doing it completely yet as the feet are not finished. ;)

I will fix this when I am satisfied with how they look.

Please also consider the rubber to touch the desk on the front side of the keyboard in times it is tilted
Looks great tho

This is concidered as well. Just don't know if i should have round pads or rectangular.
The round pads will not touch in the rear, while the rectangular don't really fit into the design imo.

That isn't really why people buy aluminum cases for keyboards.

Exactly. Why buy an aluminium case when it looks ugly but is functional?
Then you buy something that has the exact same function as your plastic case and worse looking than the plastic one.

You buy an aluminium case for the looks and nice design. For people like me this is a form of porn.
You get the looks and a piece of "art" when it comes to manufacturing, screw funtionality. Just get the thing to work without problem for the buyer.

Of course it needs to look nice, I did not deny that.
But I also want to be able to write without the keyboard slipping away, making it not usable for the designed task (writing)

At 1.3kg in a small package this will not slip, trust me

I'd just add my own rubber if it's a problem. I'm building the keyboard, so a little issue like sticking rubber stoppers on the bottom's not going to phase me.

I am planning to take orders when the prototypes are made but no payments.
Anything wrong with the prototypes there will be a slight delay in manufacturing.
Was hoping for this to be at the end of this week. But the watercutter I am using is not answering my E-mails and quotes.

This is rather strange since the school I'm at have a past record of quick answers and delivies with this company.
If I can't ship the prototypes by the end of friday all of this is delayed. BiNiaRiS or Litster will reseive 1 case. Litster have been kind to lend me a Filco for measuring and testfitting. Will probably only use this for fitting if there are no delays.

The amount of requests I have should take about 1 week to get finished as I can't use the machinery full time.
Anodizer should take about 1-2 days.

No delays; manufacturing should start in 3 weeks and shipping at the end of week 3 or start of week 4. Depending on how much time I get with the CNC.
Delays; I have no definite answer.

Any chance the sharp outer edges can be rounded off? Two things I don't like about aluminum MacBooks are the sharp edges and they are cold to touch (the latter should not be a problem for a keyboard case).

That's just the specific heat capacity for aluminum. Get a titanium case made, it'll be warm to the touch.

The edges will be chamfered.
0.5mm/45 degrees.

It will not be sharp and looks way better than a round edge.

And as Kisakuku said, it's due to the heat capacity that aluminium has. And even if there is a thick layer of paint it will still be cold to the touch.

However I think you know this, and meant that you don't touch a keyboard they way you do with a macbook.

The KMAC had two delays because of manufacturing errors. Both times, the top was slightly different in color than the bottom.

Hmmm that's not all that good to hear..

Hopefully the colouring will be the same for me, everything will be dipped in the same tub at the same time.

Wow... that's really bad..

You wouldn't... Trust me ;)
I sit and think how I am going to get a slightly better finish on the case and how I can speed up the Millingtime

Edit:
Also I envy the guy doing the KMAC case. He has it so much easier to make that case since he has no teensy to worry about.

That damn thing makes my case so fat

Edit2: If there will be a Phantom2, for the love of god don't make the cable go from the bottom of the PCB.
