Just been offered "a box full" of IBM Model M keyboards...

Hello :)

Was just told to expect "a box full" of IBM Model Ms, at £30 per working keyboard. I'm not sure how many there will be in total, but am I to expect to be able to make some money from this, if I put them on "Buy it now" for £55 on eBay? Would that be a fair price?

Thanks :)

Used Model M boards tend to sell for about 20-40. High chance you will end up spending a lot of time cleaning with little to no gain.
My recommendation: Hands-Off.

well...uk models seem a bit more in demand... I would still not recommend getting them all if you in it for financial gain.

Well I was gonna offer them to you guys for the same they cost me + shipping, but wasn't sure who'd be up for it, seeing as I am relatively new here. I'd rather make nothing and have them used, than know they're sitting in a box in someone's loft, being unloved. I'm a tech hoarder - I buy things cheap and sell them at cost or give them to family and friends, because I LOVE technology, and kindness means more than profit. The eBay idea was my last resort, if I'd been unable to shift them here and if I had valeted them and tested them all properly. I'd have sold at cost on eBay, but fees etc mean I would lose money there, so that was merely to cover fees, and £55 was a rough guess :)

Seeing someone in need of something, benefit from a good find that I am fortunate enough to have come across, is infintely more memorable and pleasing to me than the meagre sum I could amass by squeezing as much as I can from eBay'ers. I cannot abide greed - I hope I didn't come across as greedy. In the same light, I offered the guy £30 per piece without mulling it over properly, but if I can help him feed his family AND get Model Ms for a good price and not fleece him, I am happy that way :)

Okay. Would you PM me to that effect so that I can get back to you if the deal goes through? So long as I get 2 or 3 for family use (would LOVE my folks to type on decent hardware :D ) I'll hopefully have a few to shift on.

Bless you.

Naturally. No pics, no deal. I operate as I'd expect others to operate; with transparency and ease.

I'd also be interested in one if it's a very early model in decent condition, and preferably a silver label.

All those expressing an interest, PM me and I'll try to get photos by Monday or Tuesday next week. I cannot afford to buy them ALL outright, but if it turns out good, maybe it could be a "group buy", and interested parties send me their payments individually by a set date, and as many payments as I have, get one (UK only). They say they will ship however many I want to me, and I'll just charge £10-12 per board or whatever on top of the £30 board price, to you guys for shipping. If it gets too complicated, I'm bailing, so if you want one, that is my provisional idea. I will, of course, provide photos of the boards (the guy is 50 miles from me, but a known recycling company) and you'll get all my details, address, phone numbers etc etc.

See how it pans out :)

Hustle him down to 10 pounds per board regardless of its state. If you will take them all of his hands, he'll probably bite.

It was an imaginary box, so it was delivered the very second he decided he was getting it.

now that would be something

as long as it's just this time instead of a boardflood with fakers I'd actually respect that

edit: funky how the thickness of the 'normal' size font increases slightly when you add a line of 'small' to your post.. or it might be because of the bit of italics
