-Maarten custom services-

Hi all!

I did a little interest check here about a week ago for some custom cables and i got quite some positive responses (and very useful feedback on some of the prototypes i sent out) so ill start producing a couple of those for you guys.

Example cable
IMG_8375 (Medium).JPG (131.05 KiB) Viewed 1908 times

My original plan was to offer simple low-ish quality cables that just looked nice but most people i talked with preferred the ability to use their cables for something a little more than just keyboards (think DACs and USB harddrives and stuff like that) so im starting off with some better quality than originally intended. I will - for now - honor my original price of 25 euro's per cable including shipping in the Europe*
Spoiler:
Shipping to the following countries atm;
Albania, Andorra, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Canary Islands, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Faroe Islands, Finland, France (including Corsica and Monaco), Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Greenland, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malta, Moldova, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Ukraine, Austria, Poland, Portugal (including Azores and Madeira), Romania, Russia (including Asian part), San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain (including Balearic Islands, excluding Canary Islands), Czech Republic, Turkey (including Asian part), Vatican City, United Kingdom, Belarus, Sweden, Switzerland.

For those interested; I can also offer modding services (think replacing non-removeable cables on keyboard, LED replacement service and small repairs) and if there's interest i can also build other custom stuff like keyboard carrying bags....

Now i have a lot of technical data about these cables for those who like that kind of thing but the most important points on the cables from this first run are;

-USB male Type A to low profile angled USB male Mini-B
Spoiler:
Different connectors are ofc possible but for the time being ill focus on these! Unfortunatly there's no option for either lefty or righty angle as the plugs are not reversible.

-Built to preferred colour and length
Spoiler:
The cables in this first batch will be built in any lenght from 10 to 100cm. Keep in mind that my cables are thicker and tougher than normal USB cables so especially the very short ones could give problems if you want to weave them through tight corners (the official tightest bending radius for these cables is about 3,5cm as long as you keep em above -40 celcius)

-Soft outer jacket
Spoiler:
These soft-line outer jackets are available in the brightest colours and are the most flexible ones i can offer but they give the least mechanical strenght. Stronger outer jackets will be available later but those will have less colors options and will also make the cable stiffer. I can also build aramid-fibre stuff for those who want to go to war with their cables for whatever reason but those will only be available in fugly grey-ish green....

-Shielded everything
Spoiler:
The cable is fully shielded and it will be properly connectecd to the shielding in both of the connectors. For those that want a ferrite core on their cable; this is possible but i have my doubts that on cables like these it will actually do anything. There is a 5 euro price increase for these due to materials, work and most importantly the increased shipping weight. If you like one you can also steal a split core from an ol power adapter or whatever ;)

Questions? SHOOT! Ill add most info in this post for easy reference.

I'm opening 5 production slots, first come first served (as per timestamp here in this topic).

Procedure; Just post clearly that you want a cable, this will put you on the list. Let me know;
a) What connectors you like (default is male Type A to low profile male Mini-B)
b) What length cable youd like (default is 70cm)
c) What color/print you want (no default)
d) If you need the cable set up as a host or a slave cable (default is slave)

From the moment i confirm your order you will be able to pay but this is ofc not required. When the cable is done (and checked) i will let you know, from that moment on id prefer to receive payment (bank transfer preferred, paypal possible) asap, if after 7 days i still have not heard back the cable will go up for auction either here on DT or elsewhere.

I want one cable.

a) Default connectors as shown on your first picture.
b) Default (70cm)
c) Regular 'soft' jacket light blue
d) I guess default as shown in the picture.

Basically I want one pretty similar as the one in the picture to match my super blue Poker.

Do you have stronger jacket in blue?

But I like your cables much better. :) I'm not a big fan of all the exposed shrink tubing he uses...guess I'll just have to wait and see what I can find later.

I have put you on the list!

As of right now im only offering the soft cable jackets because i can source these locally, the stronger stuff i have to order from China and is unfortunately only available in bulk, so for me this is too expensive at this time.

Do you want the exact color as in the OP (color is pretty decent on my monitor) or would you like me to check for a different one? A proper pic from your board could help!

Switzerland, Norway and so many other countries joined the EU during this night??? ;-)

Could be important if it really is 'EU' or should be 'Europe'...
Think about custom controls / fees etc.!

Europe... EU... EEC... erm.... is there any difference :oops:

But yeah, you're correct. I meant Europe (or at least what our postal service thinks that list is). The country list should be correct but Ill adjust the OP accordingly 8-)

It was just meant to clearify, that people from countries that are not member of the EU but are within europe (and on this list) should remember, that they could have to pay custom fees etc...
But for single cables that should be absolutely no problem! =)

Shipping is indeed one part of the equation, when something goes wrong with one of my cables i want to make sure customers can ship it back to me cheaply so i can fix any problems, thats why shipping counts triple for me.

Bad experiences with non-traceable post outside Europe comes in at a very close second, i hate it when stuff gets lost or takes ages to arrive. I leaned the hard way that not even insurance or tracking will guarantee anything.

For now ill stick to Europe but when i change my mind on this ill post back here.

use a disclaimer, if shipping is unreasonable expensive use a proxy
e.g. shipping from germany as priority mail is 3,45 without extras

You mean good ol 'printer' cables (male type A to male type B)? Should not be a problem, i just need to stock up on B plugs.

In fact.... i have quite a collection already of those because most keyboards i build or modify use those;

Regular good ol 6gv2 before....

Its almost like the people at steelseries had this in mind to begin with it fits so perfectly 8-) Next jobs on the board will be swapped LEDs (red/white/blue) and a USB hub.... So it will end up like a 7g only better!
