PICTURES !!
Sorry some of them are dim, it got dark. :P I'll take better ones outside tomorrow.

The keycap fairy visited me today at work. She dumped 25 lbs of keycaps on me.

Image

First the bad news. I decided to stick with the same white as the last round of moogle kits, thinking it would be OK. Turns out it is really bright. Granted, my Cherry keys are a bit yellowed, but still. The Backslash key in particular isn't a very good match.

Image

The other bad thing is that the Enter keys are all the wrong profile. They don't match the Caps Lock, which is on the same row. My guess is they ran it at the same time as the left Shifts since they are the same length and profile.

Image

I will get the Enter keys rerun, but I don't think there's anything we can do about the white color. Sorry guys.

Now the good news! The legends look frickin' fantastic. Authentic Cherry keys on top, SP keys on bottom. Black Control and Alt are, from top to bottom, Cherry 2-shot, SP, Cherry pad printed. Sadly, I don't have any authentic Dolch keys to compare to.

The other bit of good news you might have noticed is that Melissa sent me the off-center stepped Caps Locks, even though she refunded me for them. So those of you who were asking for the off-center versions rather than a refund will get both!

Nice Hash. Are the black/dolch enter keys on the incorrect profile also?

The real question is - Are the stepped capslocks actually usable, or like these other screwups from their past?

cheeky bastard, putting the sp backslash on top instead ;)
But YAY, stuff arrived (@hash) and is actually looking good! Shame about the white; but perhaps a bit of sun would help...
Did she use a slightly smaller 'font' on all the keys?

For next time by the way, personally I dig the older windows icon way more than the new thingy; and have come across a few people expressing the same view, might be nice?
Another thing, imho it would be nice (next time perhaps) to have either Ctrl+Alt or Control+Alternate; but I'm not expecting a lot of support for that, wrong?

Unusable, since SP doesn't have mold for centered step capslock.

I meant - Are the stepped capslocks usable as stepped capslocks that could fit on a G80-3000, or like these other screwups from their past that are unusable on everything?

Clearer?

Ya, got it. Don't much about the capslock in the moogle kit GB round 2.

Thanks for the pictures, hashbaz! The legends look pretty good. Too bad SP had to screw up yet again, but let's hope they fix that problem asap =)

Just as a point of clarification (and to help set everyone's expectations), will you be waiting until you get the corrected keys before shipping anything out like tsangan did with the CC&G buy? That certainly makes sense for shipping costs.

I think assessing the damage of the mistake, and asking for a discount or quality check on the next buy may be worth more. I mean having a legend 'slightly' wrong, well I don't look at them.

But sprue marks....

also im happy to wait guys, never a rush :) your handling of any situation is massive in comparison to a few weeks in delay.

Are anyone else's keys on the left side just a hair too wide? My left shift, Caps Lock and Left Ctrl and Tab keys rub the side of the case and don't operate up and down without sticking on the side of the case. I tried two different sets in a Filco with the same result.

Pretty sure this is a known and common issue with Filcos and SP caps. I believe you can do a little filing to the caps to fix it.

Yes, I will be waiting for the replacement Enters. The sorting and packaging is going to take a while, regardless.

I will try out the stepped Caps Locks tonight on a Cherry keyboard if The_Ed promises to stop posting that picture.

The issue with SP's left Shift and Filcos is well known. It happens every GB that has a Shift in it. It doesn't happen with all Filcos (it didn't with mine). You just have to shave or sand a bit of material off the left edge of the key.

P.S. Is it possible to multiquote in a reply here, like it was on GH?

Okay. I did a little shaving on the case edge. A little filing on the caps as well should fix it a little better.
Thanks.

Melissa got back to me on the Enter keys. She will have them redone, but the plastic color we need for the white sets is currently out of stock, so it could be a while. In the meantime I will continue to sort everyone's orders and will send off those that don't include Enters.

Since they are out of stock of the white you do not like, is this an opportunity to swap whites?

It's the grey that's out of stock.

@ hashbaz ... It probably got lost in the flurry of responses above, but someone asked about the Black and Dolch enter keys. Are the wrong also?

Thanks,

I don't know why I'm surprised by it anymore but I am. I'm amazed that they could make such an obvious mistake as that and not notice, or maybe they just hoped they could get away with it. It would be like getting a sugar cone when you asked for a waffle cone at Baskin Robbins...key caps are their entire business...sure, we might do custom stuff, but we still use the same molds for the keys as everybody else.

I'm so glad we're finally getting some other options, like QWERKeys, I just hope they bust out their double-shot equipment for full sets.

I think that keycaps are actually just a side-business for SP. They do all kinds of custom molded plastic stuff.

So, if the replacement Enters are delayed until plastic arrives, does that mean that nothing will ship for weeks/months? No biggie, but curious. Sorry if this was answered and I missed it. Maybe it's in the OP....

Nah the OP is very out of date. I will continue to sort and make sure everything is here and accounted for. Then I will ship the orders that don't contain Enter keys. Enter key orders will have to wait for the replacements.

captain, It looks like you're right, although a big portion of their stock photos are of various keycaps and/or buttons, so it appears to be a significant part of their business, or at least one that they are proud of. Either way, QA should be job #1...seems like they're still trying to fill that position, or maybe not so much "trying"...

I will stop posting that picture in the moogle3 threads if the moogle stepped capslock DOES fit a G80-3000 properly.

Ripster is the king of multiquote here. It takes a little finagling compared to GH. It's easier to do single responses, but I do multiquote on occasion.
