Serial to ps2 or USB

I recently purchased a Kensington Expert Mouse 5. I have been interested in trying out a trackball for a while, but was held back by the high price entry into a club I might not like. This trackball was simply too cheap to pass up (25 USD shipped) so I got it. The only problem is the cable is for DE-9 serial. I know there are ps2 converters but are they standerdized? or does the Kensington use a special protocall?? Are USB converters standerdized? I would really like to try out this trackball, thank you in advance for any help.

I haven't tried myself but there's plenty RS232 adapter available ($3-$6) with DE-9 connectors. I do own a couple of these myself but ive never used them as actual standard serial ports.....
