It looks like that generation or type of 3d printer doesn't cut it? It seems to lack the refinement.

@webwit : For prototyping they are PERFECT. Absolutely amazing what you can do with them.

Production runs have a lot more refinement..... Trust me :-)

You will need more than a hundred of them to fit a full set of Cherry caps on an Alps board. If you were to sell one hundred sets, then the production run would be 10 000 pcs. Then you are reaching numbers where actual molds could be made.

here is a question. Have Matias kept the Alps fitting for their new switches? That is possibly a more notable market than people wanting to reuse old Alps boards, or a possible community developed Alps board.

Yes.

As a matter of fact, that fact plus this http://deskthority.net/marketplace-f11/ ... ?hilit=c64 put me on the idea for the adapters.

I don't want to be rude but they look as if someone chewed on them. But then: these are prototypes. tlt's C64 -> MX converters look way smoother.

Yes,

He had them made at shapeways.

I'm currently getting the dimensions right with the prototypes.

I recon full out production with molds could be viable in the end anyway, although a bit of an investment and risk.

Behaves like a joystick with two axis tilt and rotation in one axis. I used to have a joystick but it was rarely used and quite large. This would mean you always had one nearby if you ever need one.

Really interesting! If you need someone to try that out in a real world application, I hereby volunteer...looks like I could find some valid use for that in autocad. Tell me more!

Alps switches + cherry caps is nice, but did you thought about cherry switches with alps caps ??
You could try to replicate cherry's old stems that had a alps mount :o

Yes, that's entirely possible... I'm using this project to hone my cad and 3d printer skills. I need those for my other projects.

There is some issues with adapters that is good to test out with prototypes for example the height of the caps. I needed to lower the mounting plate ~5 mm to get the caps at the right level in the C64. There might also be some issues with stabilizers.

Shouldn't some of these projects be in the Workshop area. They look kind of on topic to me ;-)

Good idea, yes.. When they are done. I intend to follow them all through, but it will take time.

If anyone is familiar with the GH60, perhaps this is a game changer for the board..

We could now aim to have the GH60 compatible for alps switches as well no? assuming these plastic adapters do the trick on the caps

They will be 'higher' than normal. That could be a problem.... This might be countered by lowering the mounting plate inside the case. Don't know enough about the GH60 design to know if that's possible though.

2/3rd use Chrome, Firefox down to 25%. When we started it was roughly the other way round.

I don't use Chrome because it's by an evil ad broker who I do not wish to empower!

Never had a problem with youtube tags using Firefox, my guess is Mrinterface's Firefox developed some plugin installation issues.
