Now it's Chinese Checkers. Mah Jong and Shanghai Poker (my mom's weekly game) are banned as gambling.

I can hardly be said to like ripster,
but what you call "science" is utter bullshit:
silat wrote:Ill let the science do the talking:
For 25 years U of Ga researchers have recruited the most homophobic men on campus to watch gay porn while blood pressure cuffs record their arousal. Consistently the phobes are aroused, while gay-friendly men aren't.
Anti-gay behavior is actually the surest confession of homosexual impulses.

You spend an awful lot of time bringing up homosexuals. Time to come to grip with your sexual ID issues bub.

If you want to call that "science", then in such a context you have to first define "arousal". The experiment just says that the test persons are "aroused", but not that they actually "like" what they see - "arousal" can as well describe "being horrified".

Let’s replace "homophobic men" with "dealth penalty abolitionists", this is what you’ll get:
Researchers have recruited the most engaged death penalty abolitionists to watch capital execution videos while blood pressure cuffs record their arousal. Consistently the abolitionists are aroused, while death penalty supporters aren't.
Opposition to death penalty is actually the surest confession of death penalty supporting impulses.

Would you really say the last sentence is a scientific conclusion for such an experiment?
Well, in that case you did.

This point goes to ripster.

A similar experiment was carried out (I can probably dig up the details if needs be) where instead of measuring blood pressure, they hooked up some sort of sensor to the genitalia of men who were jailed for homophobic hate crimes... Guess what happened when they were shown gay porn... (compared, of course, with a control group)

Unless, of course, you get a boner when you see something that horrifies you.

More than 70 new members registered at Deskthority since Geekhack went down two days ago.
They sure do not all come from there,
but it is quite noticeable that it had taken three weeks for the previous 70 members to register.

Saying added to ignore list isn't very mature either.

I share fossalas concern that geekhack refugees will change the focus here.

It's not thread crapping here, you're allowed to speak your mind.

Deskthority is based on Earth, much effort has been put into it to make it an International forum. Of course since it is so elite, it goes naturally that Europeans have been a driving force.
