Been gone a while, but thanks for your music, y'all! I love catching up on this thread; there's always something interesting. Here's what I've been digging on:
Not sure yet if these guys can't figure out their sound, or if they are destined to be genre hoppers, but their latest album is a fun mix. Good rhythmic sense, especially on the part of their drummer, who is precise but seems to be delightfully unwilling to just lay down the beat.

Family — The Chase
I think Family is one of the most brilliantly creepy British bands.

David Sylvian — Steel Cathedrals

Robert Fripp's guitar on this track is haunting.

Another absolute cracker.

Taste in music is a complex phenomenon. I suspect there is an element of perceived social perception and social reward involved. For example, I might claim publicly to like a particular jazz genre because of my perception that such an assertion would earn me some sort of street credibility; i.e. people might think I was "cool". On the other side of the coin, I might be reticent about my true likes in music for fear of social condemnation. So it is regarding taste in virtually anything, e.g., mechanical computer keyboards, but one's taste in music seems to be a particularly sensitive thing that at the same time has the uncanny power to impress others positively or negatively.

Well, I don't know if I'm impressing anyone by admitting I've had that song on loop for most of the last hour now! It's just my cup of tea, rhythm and mode. Halsall's on my frequency better than anyone else in the business today.

That's easily the weirdest, most demanding track of the new album. As usual, I'm drawn to the avant stuff. Always been that way with music. Getting into the Velvet Underground as a teen when the other kids were into… Blur!

Just in case Hyper thinks I'm off my rocker, here's a very different song from the same album. Another one I love.
Halsall's a trumpeter, and the star of this one in his own right. I count him right up there with Chet Baker, Freddie Hubbard and Miles Davis. Each one of them doing something remarkable, and quite different, with the same instrument. As you kids do with your guitarists.
