Now, most of you probably know about the low profile ML keyboards from the G84 series. But until last year, I had no idea Cherry ever made a full-sized layout with ML switches too. But here it is!

G84 indeed.


Keycaps are sublimation dyed and of spherical profile. All keycaps are the same profile, you can therefore use this board for silly layouts like dvorak or colemak.


Tandberg Display logo. Tandberg is a Norwegian company, nowadays mainly focusing on video-conference systems.


For Cherry standards, this keyboard is of extremely high quality and probably much more stable than any of the G80 series boards they produced around the same time.


Under the keycaps there is a layer of foam, dampening the sound a bit. It seems like the foam does not actually ever touch the keycap, so the theory that it was used to soften the keystroke is ruled out.


The PCB is shielded with a very thick layer of flexible rubber and more foam in the inside of the bottom case. Impressive build-quality.

Maybe the foam helps you from bottoming out ?

Weird keycap shaping.

I do think the foam softens bottoming out. It's somewhat inconsistent on the board I have, but feel definitely is different from a ML4700.

Off-center friction didn't prove much of a problem for me here. Once you get used to the somewhat wacky keycap shape (not as friendly as the FSC boards by far), it's a nice board for quick typing. The biggest annoyance actually is the position of the modifiers on the left (especially LCtrl), which are like way out west.

Cherry made more ML keyboards than just the G84-4100 and G84-4400

I'm only interested in the G84-5200, the only issue is the keys to the right of the enter keys irritate me when i use my G84-4100/4400, so the layout above would be more ideal. Where did you get the keyboard above anyway?

I have considered the G84-5500 before finding GH. Couldn't find US/EU layout to buy.
