It has part number 4176191, which is supposed to be a Model F. Perhaps there was a mix-up on the labeling somewhere.

still doesn't explain the plastic bottom.

The box has P/N 4176191 and the label on the back has P/N 1397950. Both numbers are associated with the Model F "Bigfoot". Are you sure the bottom is plastic? It sure looks like webwit's Bigfoot find:

All except the later date and the "M" designation on the label.

Berserk Fan has an (actual) Model F keyboard or keypad with metal plate and separate barrels that was labeled "Model M"

My guess is that the label is from a different keyboard altogether. I don't buy that Lexmark made this keyboard in 1996.

Be careful with that AEG Olympia keyboard, it has some lasered keycaps, e.g. on some F-keys.

That Leading Edge one should be Alps (the one listed on the wiki is blue Alps, with double-shot keycaps)

Lexmark probably just had some Bigfoot NOS, which they kept available for customers as replacement parts. Wouldn't read too much in the label they stamped on them.

Buyers beware. These two are not actually mechanical.

The first one has some kind of rubber dome plunger switch. Their marketing claims that they imitate a mechanical switch but I remain doubtful. I reported the seller because he is purposely putting false information in the auction title.

The Cherry is a G83 rubberdome. What an ass, calling that dirty old keyboard "TOP like new"

I always wonder why people post endless lists of eBay auctions for:
- worthless stuff they obviously know nothing about (like this) or
- interesting stuff everybody would be able to find anyway (like this) or
- stuff where buyers obviously won't get what they expect (like this).

And I still think posting all interesting but somewhat hidden stuff like this
(where only the additional pics reveal the caps are dyesubs)
just helps people too lazy to search themselves and discourages others to try and find.

I still wonder why people keep mentioning this point again since this thread was started over a year ago!

What makes a "Great/Interesting Finds" is relative anyway, although I do agree with some of your expamles kbdfr!

First of all, I'm not gonna do this forever (still new and excited about all this but I'm not sure how long that's gonna last).

Second of all, the truly great deals are kept secret. I love you guys, but I'm not gonna open the flood gates on shit I want.

Third, posting them here and giving someone else a shot at them provides some kind of validation for all my hours of browsing ebay (and not buying much).

But why are we posting at all then?

if it´s on ebay it´s not a secret, unless the discription is way off.

I like this thread because I don't search eBay for everything keyboard related, mostly old IBM boards. Someone else might post another interesting vintage board or even something new that I wouldn't be otherwise looking for. Also, this forum is international. It's nice to see what folks are finding on the other side of the pond.

I don't see the problem of sharing links about things that doesn't interest you, but that might interest someone else.

I spend hours on Ebay and other similar websites every week, and though I am typing right now on a keyboard that someone posted here. I just didn't see because it was listed in Germany.

That's what I see here too. I figure "if you wanted it, you'd have bought it"... I see plenty of things that feel like they'd appeal to the DT audience, but won't suit my personal needs.

Well, I agree with all of you

Except that I really doubt anybody on DT will be interested in a Cherry G83 rubberdome keyboard with not MX compatible keycaps humorously lasered with comments in Hessian dialect (first example in my post).
And except that I think nobody searching eBay for Cherry keyboards will miss an auction were the title says "CHERRY G81-1251 HAD" (second example in my post).
And except that I do not wish to anyone interested in a "SELTENE AEG OLYMPIA (CHERRY) TASTATUR" to spend 40 € for a keyboard where the obviously ignorant commercial seller has mixed lasered and doubleshot caps from different keyboards, like his other sales show (third example in my post).

Don't misunderstand me, I'm not opposed to posting "Great/Interesting Finds", even if of course I happen to wish an item particularly interesting for me would have been kept secret from all those who did not even search for it but just read here about it. My post above explicitely states "endless lists" of stuff and "posting all […] stuff".

Besides, I think it is not a good idea to point to eBay auctions without mentioning possible caveats (like in the third example above). shreebles or others point to such caveats sometimes, sometimes not.
For example, if someone happens to be interested in the CHERRY MY 3000 QWERTZ which has been posted yesterday, they should be conscious of the fact that the pics have obviously (completely different seller) been stolen from the one with the dyesubs which had ended just before and thus they will not get what they see.

So my point is that this thread should deserve its title: "Great/Interesting Finds".

Says a lazy guy like me who doesn't often search ebay at all. But I do like this thread, as it's often plain amusing. Thus the notoriously overpriced links and suspicious ones we often point to. WITH DESCRIPTIONS, please! Interesting isn't always the same thing as great.

Like Quantalume, I like to see what's going on abroad, too. And let's be honest: I picked up a handful of sweet finds through this: one of Webwit's tipped Siig Minitouches, which turned out to be NIB Montereys, on Marktplaatz not ebay; and a nice AEK II Snoopy conveniently proxied for me along with an M0110 I was buying from him already. In return there was that SSK I tipped and Halvar bagged.

It's nice not to be alone amongst the ebay sharks. Even if it does mean more of us also find the lambs!
