[IC] Phantom-compatible plates

On laserteile4you.de you can get 10 deburred aluminium ISO150 plates for 109,60€ shipped with a turnaround time of 3 weeks (or 114,72€ for 2 weeks or 127,57€ for one week), I could then send these out across Europe for around 4€ as a letter, that would lead to a total price of ca. 15€ (or 15,50€/17€) for one plate.
I don't know how good these plates would be cut by laserteile4you.de, but I think 7bit ordered from them and was happy.
Are there another 9 people still interested in ISO150 plates? How fast would you like to get them?

The interested persons from scottc IC were, as far as I can tell, scottc himself, ramnes, iAmAhab, M1K3L08, Xandr and me. Are you still interested?

Hey,

I am in for an ISO 150 plate too if not too late ;)

I'd like a 7bit

I think I'm going to pull out of this at this time. I'm not sure if someone even took it over, but I figured I might as well sign off.

I am sending tonight a RFQ to a local laser cutter, and hopefully by Thursday or Friday I'll have an answer.
I have set up a spreadsheet with what I see so far on this thread.
I am requesting a quote for the following:

Code: Select all

ANSI125 qt 12 in SS
ANSI150 qt 12 in SS
ISO125 qt 6 in Alu
ISO150 qt 7 in Alu
7BIT qt 4 in SS
I will have a plate (60%) cut as a sample in SS, finish should be matte in 304 stainless.
Please take a look at the spreadsheet and PM me for any corrections.
I can't guarantee at this point that it will work, it all depends on cost, but let's hope for the best!

Nice chzel.

Personally, I'm in Orion v2 GB, so I don't need this anymore (for now). You can remove me from the spreadsheet.

I would be interested in a 60% universal plate with cutouts, though.

Since nobody seemed to be interested into my offer a few post above, I'm still in for an alu ISO150 plate!

Ack, really sorry about that! I've been busy with a move job and didn't see that at all. I'm still up for an ISO150 regardless of who organises this. I prefer aluminium but I'd also go for steel if that's the general consensus, I don't really mind too much.

Chzel, I might be up for one of the 60%s too! I imagine it'd reduce the test-run costs if we ordered two.

My 60% is going to be a HHKB-ish layout, so I am not so sure it would interest anyone else, but i guess we could add some 60% Poker/universal layout plates to the order.
That said, we really need to wait for the quote, I have no idea what the cost will be.

If you have alte design for this f*****g plate Ill be probable in dépendant on the price. I'm looping for something like that for so long...

I am still waiting for the quote and samples, hopefully I'll have something today or early next week.

Got the samples today!
They look nice, are quite accurate, and price is not too bad!
There is a bit of an issue with stabilizers, Costar work perfectly, Cherry PCB mount are tight fit but definitely possible, and Cherry plate mount are a bit hit and miss whether the stabilizer will clip or not (I think this is a problem with all universal stabilizer cutouts). Bear in mind I tested them the way I got them, with minimal deburring.

ANSI and 60% are SS, ISO is aluminium.

Price is 15€ for the aluminium ones and 20€ for the stainless steel.
Depending on quantity and sheet usage and nesting ability price might drop a euro or two, but don't count on it.
You can calculate postage here. (use irregular letter)
Weight is 270g for the SS and 100g for the aluminium, but keep in mind that the alu plates will need extra support to avoid bending (they are VERY easy to bend).
I'll open a formal GB thread probably tomorrow.

Aluminium cheaper than SS, that's shocking! Great work though Chzel, thanks a lot. :)

Side-note: Does anyone know if it's possible to fit these plates into the Vortex aluminium Filco cases? I don't think it is, but just for reference.

Yeah, part of their price is dependent on the material weight, so SS being ~2.5 times heavier is more expensive in the end!

Finally 60%

20 May 2015, 10:26

This looks promising! Is it too late to declare interest? Should I wait for the GB thread today?

User avatar

It's never too late, but I'll ask everyone to reconfirm their order, so I'd wait for the GB proper!
BTW, if anyone has a proven universal 60% plate dxf, I think we can add that too.

What conditions have to be met that the plate is proven?

User avatar
chzel

20 May 2015, 14:41

Basically to have been produced from that particular dxf.
I don't think I can have a sample made in a reasonable time-frame before I start the GB, and I'd really like this not to go on forever (7bit style!)

Missed the updates as I haven't been on here in a while, but I am definitely interested in both plate designs.
The samples look great :D

I used swill's plate designer for my 60% design, however, I'm not fit enough in CAD to draw an universal layout myself :/

Same here, the 60% plate I cut with my layout was designed with swill's excellent tool, but I think a universal ANSI/ISO plate would make more sense, and swill's tool does not allow for this.

Swill updated his tool as some people were complaining about tolerances. It concerns the Costar + Cherry cutouts when using Costars. As I see you have the Costar + Cherry cutouts, did you already try Costar stabs? Or do you intend to use Cherry anyway?

User avatar
chzel

I intend to use Cherry PCB mount which are a tight fit, and I just tested Costars. They fit fine, but they could be a hair tighter on the spacebar.

Wow, the results look great and the prices are OK, I feel. I would be interested in an 60% SS especially if it would be somewhat universal of course.
