Any clues why I can't log in for the wiki, with a supposedly invalid user name? The login used is the very same as on the forum, as it states on the front page.

Stimmt, jedenfalls die üblen Verdächtigen wie G80-3000LSCDE-2 etc. Bei der muß man sich übrigens nur mal das Alter der Rezensionen ansehen, dann wird schnell klar, daß mechanische Tastaturen seit 1-2 Jahren eine stark gestiegene Aufmerksamkeit genießen.

Good to see that the winner is a noob rather than one of us spoiled keyboard-collecting types. Not sure whether I'd have chosen one with reds as the first mechanical, but it'll be a very nice board in any case.

It's not that difficult really (heck, if I can do it, almost anyone can). I got by with a single 2.0 mm flat head precision screwdriver in the end. Just be careful not to have switch internals flying all over the room, and whatever you do, don't mess with the metal parts used for making contact.

For me it's
1) MX blues
2) BS (M style)
3) MX clears
followed by various stuff that's quite usable (Futaba, blacks). Note that I have not been able to try brown and red switches, a Model F or Montereys yet, which I assume would all rank pretty highly.

Cool, I didn't know there were "lefty" boards with a mirrored numpad out there - even though as stated, mirroring 1..9 does seem excessive. (Try using MouseKeys with that one!)

So... does anyone make a standalone lefty numpad with -/+/Enter/./0 mirrored? Would seem like a ...

But yes, the detachable numpad is one of the nicer things about this board. Too bad they don't really hold up.

The easiest way to tell actually is the LED label. Note how it does not extend over the whole numpad width. I think this board is a Mitsumi, KPQ-E99 or whatever they're called.

It's an interesting idea for sure, but I'd rather have a monitor with an ambient light sensor take care of that (minus the color temp adjustment, obviously). Those are the shit. (Typically some upscale Eizos or NECs.) And the idea isn't even new - the folks at Grundig already implemented such things ...
