I want to place an order (shipping separately from my keyboard is OK) for a bunch of extra keycaps. Should I wait to see what are the final legends that will be available? Or should I just go ahead and order using the information that Zed has already posted in this thread?

Well, perhaps 80% is too dark, but the 60% is considerably lighter than existing black-on-black dyesub sets e.g. Originative Classic Black.

I realize I'm a bit late to the party on this one, but the 60% grey caps are too light for my liking. My reason behind wanting them is to have the legends be so low contrast that you can't see them unless you're specifically looking for them. It's less distracting to me while I'm coding. Like ...

Perhaps it would be good to find 2 separate people: one with a colorimeter and the other with a set of dark grey keys that they'd be willing to part with for a while?

Thanks for all the careful checking that you're doing on this project, Ellipse. I'm happy to wait longer to make sure that the quality is top-notch. (I just got burned by /dev/tty QC problems, so I'm particularly appreciative.)

I echo the Originative Carbon Blacks as an inspiration. Basically dark enough that upon first glance you don't see the printing, but light enough that I don't have to get my face in the keys to see them. I would be shocked if it isn't. I think the MOQ is mostly to do with the cost of producing a different color of base keycap. Ellipse said that he was doing the dye-subbing himself. Knowing next-to-nothing ...
