Another issue I have is that the switches are pretty bad and I'd like to give the wax mod a try.
I'm pretty sure that the switches are of the later variety as there's not slits where the sliders are.
I heard that putting later sliders in boiling water makes them go soft and melted.

Weren't AEK caps manufactured with a smooth finish in the first place? I've never noticed texture on them as I remember.

I've also got a couple of M0116 and M0118s. Some caps are smooth like the AEK, others have texture.
The texture is very fine, but it is there. Definitely not like IBM caps. I ...

In my experience it really depends between different types of keycaps.
The ones on my IBM keyboards still have their texture, even after 38 years in the case of my Model F.
But, the keycaps on my Apple Extended Keyboard (which I'm actually typing this on) are almost completely smooth.

I'm sure it's nice to use, but to be honest, it looks a bit cheap and generic. This could be any random gaming keyboard off Amazon. Always nice to see a new Realforce though.

66 springs, 79 flippers. Decent condition, a few have some bits of corrosion as shown in pictures.
These have not been cleaned. They will be disassembled and separated to avoid damage in postage, so you'll have to put them all back together. Not a full set ...

You got a good deal. The yellowed one in the corner is not a Model M though, it probably has Alps or Alps clone switches.
The black and grey one does look like a BTC 5100 - they could come with either rubber domes or foam and foil switches.

It would also be interesting to try both steps separately, so just boiling without the wax, and just the wax boil.

I've tried a couple of SCLS typewriters, they were quite smooth and didn't bind at all.
I did try one that was a bit scratchy and bindy but it wasn't that bad.
