Had a T60 before, tried an X220 and use an E320 now. I found both types of keyboard equally unpalatable. The 'proper' Thinkpad keyboard had longer travel but was mushier, whereas the chiclet as with most of them seem a bit more tactile but has less travel and flatter keys.

Got a bunch of these boards in a haul a while ago. Sliders over domes. Went straight to the e-waste.

They were lasered ABS IIRC. Not terrible but not good either.

I wouldn't have used them but would have happily distributed them to anyone interested.

I ought to start a thread about Topre keycap finishing. At twice the cost this is clearly a problem of greater magnitude.

Contacted them a few days ago, total cost according to their estimates would be ~$281 USD paypalled. Which seemed pretty reasonable, so I placed an order :)

You can then even buy your own switch try bag with keyswitches of your choosing. In the future ...

Err, possible but I've never sought to inquire about their power tools. Guess now's as good a time as any.

My main concern with doing a full mod is that I currently don't have a Dremel, only an ordinary drill and more drilling means more chance of screwing something up. Resale value is not an issue for me since I don't intend to ever part with this board but I'd still hate to permanently disfigure it ...

I've started considering this... again. Recently noticed that the arrow keys bottom out with a jarring plasticky impact which goes away when squeezing the plates together.

A partial bolt mod seems like the most practical solution at the moment. I assume it's as easy as drilling where broken rivet ...

Here are my impressions.

Cherry MX Red and Black: exactly as one would expect a linear switch to feel like except with differing force. Not my thing.

Cherry MX Brown: light and not much tactility. Fairly inoffensive but not very impressive. For me the tactility is enough to ruin the smoothness ...

Right now I'm blinded by the contrast of that doubleshot keycap but I'll post impressions soon as I recover.

Yeah, I appreciate the offer but it's not really feasible.

I lack the equipment for the epoxy mod (and it doesn't look very stable) so I'll probably end up using bolts or looking for someone to do it when I have to. The board still feels fairly nice at the moment.

The springs do look decent from the outside.

Thanks guys. Now there's just the problem of my total ineptitude with anything handheld but I can probably pay someone to do it if the rivet loss ever becomes debilitating.

Cosmetic condition is good except for what appears to be pen marks at a few locations on the board, and some browning in the crevasses of the textured plastic. Hopefully both will go away with some scrubbing.

Sounds very interesting indeed, especially your description of the switches and the actuation point. Surprised to see a fairly atypical board surface in the mechanical wasteland that is Australia as well.

Had a Copperhead, used for ~2 years. Hated the tapered design since it made it massively uncomfortable to fingertip grip. The silicon highlights on the sides wore away where my fingers sat and the scroll wheel + middle mouse died.

Switched to an Abyssus. Much more conducive to fingertip grip BUT ...
