I used one of these in high school, had forgotten all about them!

That's not just any old slide rule. That's an old Jeppesen E6-B flight computer. The Jeppesen name is familiar to me as they are the main source of IFR approach plates for pilots still on paper charts. I don't have my IFR ticket - I'm barely a student pilot - but that is a very familiar name.

The E6-B in all its incarnations (slide rule, digital) is still a popular flight computer. Use it for doing conversions, density altitude, temperature aloft, time/speed conversions, and so on. It is easy to take this for granted nowadays with fancy flight management systems and iPad based flight computers but many years ago this is how it was done.

There are plenty of wrist watches that have an E6-B built in. This is why "aviation watches" have those funny rotating dials. They are a slide rule!

If you do have any slide rules - I have a good friend who collects them and asked me to keep an eye out for more.
