Concepts like this — using wearable tech to extrapolate movements — are definitely in fashion right now. Can't tell yet if it's a silly diversion, that will fade into a quaint historical footnote like portable battery powered CRT televisions or indeed BlackBerry thumb keyboards, or whether it's a glimpse of the future we will actually live.

I guess you'd have to be a very precise touch-typist to use this thing right. I can't imagine it to detect perfectly a free-style typer who moves his hands around the keyboard all the time. But then again, maybe this could be a good way to exercise and learn a more precise typing style.

They could at least have taken someone who types properly to make this video.
And have him/her type the text which is displayed instead of just wildly move fingers

I would use something like that only if I don't have to remove it when doing something else than typing in between (like turning pages, answering the phone, cleaning my glasses, drinking coffee, hand-writing a memo). I rather doubt it wouldn't be disturbing then.

Hey! I've got a few portable battery powered CRT televisions and I like them just fine.

I'd never buy one of those AirType things though. I'd have to imagine that I'm air typing on spherical keycaps - and my imagination is not that good.

Typing on boobs would actually work out quite nicely. There are nubs for F and J, so you don't have to look at the "keyboard"... unless you wanted to, of course.

Actually the name suggests you don't need a surface but you can type in the air with this. Which is a shame, given the boobs option.

Apparently there has been a mutation in human testosterone production lately.

Younger males of that rather astonishing species have always displayed their testosterone level,
but while until now this aimed at females or at other males when competing for a desired female
(and lately at males when those were considered mating partners instead of or as a complement to females)
now they pointlessly do so even in the absence of any prospective mating exercise.

These things aren't mutually exclusive. Or permanently so. You cause a lot of trouble focussing it all on the ladies, every hour of the day, for coworkers especially!

Maybe if the AirType comes with a built-in loudspeaker. Considering that it has an "app", maybe that would include a panel where you can dial in the switch you want to pretend you're typing on.

Yeah sound would sure be handy, since you can't have tactile feedback.
