Any chance to get G80-3000 with US layout in UK?

Hi all.

I'm interested in buying a Cherry G80-3000 US layout with blue switch. As far as I can tell, G80-3000-LSCEU is the one I need.

My question is, where can I buy one? I'm currently in UK. Amazon UK and various dealers seem to sell GB layout keyboards only. I don't minding shipping one from other EU countries. Buying outside EU is a no go for me.

Any clue would be much appreciated!

I got my LQCDE from PC Planet in Germany in 2012 (clears in UK layout does not exist), but they seem to have closed down.

The best bit is this:

http://cherrycorp.com/english/keyboards ... /index.htm

Cherry's own website has a "Shop Online" button that just goes to some sort of pathetic aggregator site that tells you that there are no results.

These keyboards are surprisingly obscure.

No idea if these guys can be trusted, but they sell them for a reasonable price for Britain (I paid €46.49 for the one I bought from Germany):

Weird isn't it?

I'm sure I picked up some Cherry mech back in the 90s when gathering the pieces for a gaming machine, as even I did back then, and even the little local PC bits shop carried one or two of them. I knew bugger all about keyboards, but Cherry were meant to be pretty good, so I gave one a shot. Don't know what became of it, perhaps my folks still have it in the loft?

Yet these days, Cherry keyboards are actually among the hardest ones to buy new! How the brand has fallen.

Thanks, I will check them out. The ones listed on Cherry website are all US shops. Casetac.com seems to be the only option.

I think it's the way they distribute their product that's weird -- do they actually think nobody in EU will ever want to buy a US layout keyboard? If you want to buy EU layouts (GB, DE etc) it's very easy to get new ones.

I don't have too much expectation from G80-3000. I just want to try Cherry profile keys. But since I'm buying a new keyboard, I might as well buy one in the layout I like most. If I fail to get hold of G80-3000, I am thinking to buy a Topre RF87 instead.

Yeah, I found the G80-3000 to be cheap and nasty. I don't understand why they can't put extra standoffs in the centre to support the PCB. A colleague has mine though, and has no complaints about it.

Profile is an interesting one — OEM profile does look a bit archaic. If you're suggesting that the RF87 has a Cherry-like key profile, I must confess that I didn't realise. I'd have to compare the spare keys from my Realforce with some OEM profile keycaps. (I don't have the Realforce at the moment, nor the spare keycaps at home either.)

Realforce caps are one of the best things about Topre. They're a very pleasant profile. More than a little like NMB, I like to think, as I still have an NMB but no Realforce!

Definitely get the Topre. Cherry's boards don't even compete with Filco, Ducky, etc. in build, let alone the real high end.

Hmm, just noticed this on ebay:

Same guy has listed the HHKB Crunch just linked.

No, I'm not suggesting RF has Cherry-like profile. I was just saying if I want to spend money I would rather spend it on things I want (RF87 rather than GB layout G80-3000).

Unfortunately my research online tells me Casetac.com is a scam. But thank you for your suggestion anyway.

Yeah I don't trust that website either, but it's so hard to be sure any more.

Nobody from the Netherlands has commented yet? :( They use US layout in the Netherlands.

Never thought about this before because I know nothing about Dutch.

LQCEU (MX Clear) is usually available at both German Amazon and eBay; I've never cared for blues (and it's easy to transplant different stems anyway). Be sure to pick the black one (thick keycaps).

If you don't mind other switch and no legends on the keycaps you could go for a G80-3000LPCXY-2.

If you just want to try out the keycaps you can always just buy them alone and put them on a nicer MX keyboard.

geizhals (cheapass) has one of the best search engines, just make sure to use geizhals.at/de (atleast they used to have a different engine than the .de site, which was way better. Maybe they have changed this in the past, but better safe than sorry. ;))

Doesn't the keyboard company sell the 3494? I might have missed the point or something, not sure.

Edit: Ah, blue switches, got you. Pick up a 3494 (ANSI) and a 3000 with Blues (ISO) and swap the switches, sell the ISO with reds? Expensive way to do it but probably cheaper than importing?

<strike>I got mine from newegg, not sure if they ship to UK.</strike>

I take that back, looks like I actually ordered from mwave as they were cheaper at the time. Newegg is cheaper right now, though.

Too bad they don't have a blank US layout with MX Blues, otherwise I could transfer my blanks GB :p
