That was fast... :D
Then my theory was right with it. Then I would like a solid case as well, rather than a layered one.

if you are milling it can we get it made out of a block of stainless :P only kidding that would be insane price !

Cast and machined are both solid. Like this:

Layered meanwhile is like this:

That's my board. It was fun making it. But really, there is no comparison. I have no place for another layered board in my life. Solid is the way to go. Period.

OK layered sounds like not as good an idea. I was thinking a flat aluminum top piece and bottom piece along with four side pieces but I will try to redesign the case to be more easily CNC machined if no good quotes come in. I may try to make it primarily one aluminum block if it will save on costs.

Solid alu: nice!

Maybe engrave an big IBM on outside of the case?

Sorry no logos. The buckling spring patents have long expired but IBM still trademarks its logo.

Three other letters in the same font will do. Suggestions?

Ask IBM? :)

I'd prefer to not have any logo on the front.

Or we could have swappable badges.

Or no logo at all ;(

HAL?

I'm sure HAL himself would like it!

Much better than a serial number.

No more like an insert portion. So we could insert authentic IBM square badges in it or make DT square badges.

Yeah but what if we don't have any IBM badges and we don't particularly want a DT logo on our keyboard (nothing against DT or its logo, of course  )?

I say keep it as clean, simple, and faithful to the original as possible : NO LOGOS OR HOLES!

Okay, I'll trade you no logo for NO CABLE!

I'm with photekq on this; the original 4704s did not have a logo, why clutter it up with one?

Posted: 09 Jul 2015, 23:12
by Muirium
Because the SSK is prettier!

Why not stick with the 4704's ugly and useless parallel cable while we're at it? The Kishy's a fine enough design, but it has multiple flaws.

Not having a logo is not one of them...

Looks like no one wants a logo. I can live with that.

Some type of feet would be nice though...

I would go for a badge IF we had a solid source for original (or absolutely identical to original) square IBM badges. I wouldn't settle for anything less. If we could source those I think it would look lovely!

Otherwise, no badge for me thanks.

Yeah same here.

Red - I expect to include 1" cork feet. Like these: http://www.mcmaster.com/#8771k73/=xzd7l2

Not sure if the rendering on their web site is accurate - it's probably a placeholder. They should look like the cork feet on the XT keyboard.

Eh I am not sure if cork feet are the best idea. I understand that the awesome double step feet on an F122 would most likely be too costly and complicated but maybe we could have screw-in metal feet like on the F107?

Posted: 10 Jul 2015, 01:39
by Muirium
Yeah, I'm no fan of the cork either. The Kishsaver's feet are okay, if not great. Retractable Model F style feet are the gold standard (better than the Model M) but obviously require a lot of design work.
