Just the thought of gluing stabs into any of my precious caps freaks me out! Make it stop!!

It's more like a high-grade rubber cement. Kinda stretchy if you really pull on it, and it will detach with enough effort, so the inserts aren't truly permenant.

Besides, the chances that I'll someday need to put those caps on a board without Costars is virtually nil.

I'm using a very small bit of polyethylene film on the stabilizer (meaning I cut small pieces from a thin plastic bag and put one in between cap and stab).

For some reason it's just the TKL Filcos and not the 104s that have clearance issues with SA caps

Yeah the left side is real tight, like the left ctrl, shift, caps, and can rub against them. Pretty easy fix, just sand down the case a little, it's literally like mm's. Also doesn't affect every keyboard, just some

Thanks for the GD/GPA comparison, Mu. In a way it's reassuring to see they're almost unidentifiably close.

In the absence of 1-2-3-4-5-6, 1-1-2-3-4-3 or 3-1-2-3-4-3 seem the best compromises to me. I keep meaning to try a DSA mod row for the half height thing.

Here are some more successful shots of the Unitek K-156. It didn't turn out quite as planned, getting more Round 4 and grab bag leftovers than expected instead of useful Round 5 kits like mixed f1tof12s and elaborate but forgotten cursorbase plans. Should I reconsider and go for a batch recap?

Ah, the white NUMNUM. If I actually even had a fullsize MX board in my possession back when I ordered Round 5, I should have added one of those. But I wasn't willing to be so much of a mad completionist to go beyond a colour and a half's worth of numpad coverage for something hypothetical!

I did try out the thing with the plastic bag parts on the stabilizers, and I can report, it works a treat.
On my Filco TKL, there seems to be no clearance issue on any of the keys, so I am pretty happy.
Pics coming, but not with the cellphone, those are too crappy to post here.

you can try but cling film is quite thin. Better is a piece of a plastic bag or something. I use sealing tape, works fine.

I didn't try cling film. Just an ordinary thin/light plastic bag that you get when shopping. I don't think cling film is thinner than the one I use. The main point is deformability (to lazy to look up a better word). If you deform cling film, I think it develops stronger forces to revert to its original form, which you don't want. (I'm expressing this very badly, sorry.)

I use thicker plastic from freezer bags and i cut them to be a little bit longer, so when i swap caps i can pull it out if i need to

I think you did. It's on my project list. I need to convert it to USB, which ought to be quite easy by removing the controller and running it from a Teensy instead. The matrix is exposed.

Once I can program it any way I like (Soarer's Controller, naturally) I'll come up with something. I mean, I do have two of them so split keyboard layout experiments are a possibility.

Very nice. The Round 4 blues make nice highlights on Round 5. I'm not sure what you're doing with your mods, though. Control does make sense as a thumb key I suppose. The Mac's Command key does all those duties, and lives either side of all my spacebars!

Haha, I glued those suckers in. Thankfully it's real cheap all-around glue, so it'll detach with even a little bit of force.

Your picture's not so bad. The colours are right, and that's an elegant little 60%. Bet the caps double its height!

Thanks Murium,yes the poker 2 look a bit taller but not so much.
I'm trying to figure out how will look lika the hyper micro with this caps.
