I am sure your son will "love doing keyboard stuff with his dad" soon. Give him some time and sit with him at the keyboard and show him how to press a key.

I always take ~100 pictures and one usuallly turns out nice.

BTW: Love your "strange cap with a skull". Ebay? Trade?
If you can afford a clack you are on the route to your own industrial SSK :evilgeek:

Very nice, HAL! Have you looked at the APL keys that Unicomp are selling?

Definitely, when i got my SSK i thought now THAT'S a keyboard. For it's size it's heavy, and the look and feel is in reality much better than on an image. I even bought a second one, that i have one at work and one at home. Someone's selling a SSK for 170$.

The clack was included in the offer (300$ shipped), i got it instead of a normal ESC key. I asked for the normal cap, but the seller didn't have it (why, there's the clack he said baffled). Well, and now i'm also addicted to clacks.

Yesterday was a good time:

http://deskthority.net/vendors-f52/wts- ... ml#p176198

Typically you've got to be patient. And ready with a good chunk of cash when one does come up on the Marketplace here. Phosphorglow seems to always have some he's restoring:

http://deskthority.net/photos-f62/six-n ... phor%20SSK

And, occasionally, one will show up on the Great Finds thread, like one in England I spotted and Halvar grabbed:

So my father does some electronics recycling on the side and a while back he was given a box of old keyboard, all junk, or so I thought. I pawed through them and found a model m. I knew they were kind of popular and checked eBay real quick for "IBM Model M". I saw them going for like $50 and thought "oh, cool. I'll set that aside".

Move forward a few months to a couple days ago and I just did an eBay search on "IBM 1391472". There was nothing. So I checked completed listing and couldn't believe it. The lowest one sold was $215.

Now I can't make up my mind. Sell it and pay rent, or rock it? I have a black widow ultimate with mx cherry blue switches and I am completely satisfied with it. But I think I am at least going to have phosphorglow refurb it. Then I'll either rock it, it sell it, but it's an investment either way. Now on to some pictures!

Rock it man. Rent lasts for a month, but a SSK lasts a lifetime.

What is the attraction with the industrial shells? Is it the looks or the fact that they are a lot more rare then their pale skinned brothers? Maybe a bit of both? Personally I prefer the regular ones when it comes to esthetics.

Probably it's because it's much rarer, but I actually dig that industrial grey and think it somehow looks more modern.

Has this ISO SSK something to do with Tinnie's find i saw some weeks ago? Post some more pictures!

Here's my second SSK, uncleaned, got it last week (shipping from USA took about 10 days, including customs, really fast). On the weekend i did a bolt mod, and cleaned it, but have no pictures made until yet. Also i have to clean the case on the backside, there are some sharpie marks. All in all it was in a good condition, and i can't wait to finish it! I have some questions regarding IBM keyboards especially SSKs, but i will make a thread when i finished everything and did some research.

The close up of the keys! That looks like a job for Phosphorglow.

I really love SSKs, they're the prettiest little keyboards.

I tried for the first time a Kukident bath for the caps, with good, but not perfect results. Most of the caps are really clean now. Some of the caps i have to clean a little bit more, especially on/in the texture is dirt. For example the SPACE bar was not easy to clean.

With some scrubbing with a microfiber cloth or, if needed, a toothbrush this should be no problem at all. Model Ms are exceptionally cleanable compared to other keyboards imo. Good luck!

I don't know where i should place the sticker from steel plate. Normally it would go back on it's original place, but the i have to say that i love it that much (since it's original), that i would also like to put it on the back of the case. I've put the sticker inside a hot foil, and on the back is a strong double sided adhesive tape.

So my question is, where should it be placed? Maybe someone has some ideas regarding this strange problem.

I would keep it inside the case (but not attached anywhere)

Where did the rubber thingies from the back go (what do you call those)?

Inside the case is a great idea, i could attach it with some not so strong adhesive tape on the case under the metal plate. Like a quality-proofed paper in pockets of new trousers you buy (uh, if someone knows what i mean).

Seriously, this is my first Spacesaver, I bought this (1392934 / 05-30-90) from a nice fellow in
the Netherlands on the Marktplaats site for €150. Apart from a few knicks on the case
(above F5 area, next to Tab) I happy with it. The caps are not two piece like on my M´s,is this normal?
I have not opened the case yet.I´ts got a tiny sticker with Asian looking symbols on the case.
Of course the NumLk confused me at first. The SDL cable is about twice as long as those that came
with my M´s. I´d like some feedback from you ssk experts please.

Cheers.

Your credentials check out. Welcome to the SSK club! Of course, we should really make the SSK club a chapter of the DT Keyboard Club, so no membership number for you! Yet…

Welcome to the club! Regarding the sticker: i think it's from TaoBao or something like this, maybe it came from Asia in the past. One of my SSKs has almost the same sticker(s), i asked Tinnie, and he said it's from TaoBao/China.
