Ah, Photoshop Users Rejoice! Whoops, wrong shortcut. Damn Windows!

Still haven't had a chance to play with the layout. I may be doing some AutoHotkey remapping for those arrow keys...

Helvetica?

Not quite...but you can see the impressive lasering.

Nice shade of orange, makes a led-backlit-board much more attractive/usable.
So what the f were they thinking placing the arrows there instead of just one key to the left?
aaaand would it be correct to say that a spelling change is in order for KBT? i.e. KBt, or KBtK even...
and what the heck is that blob in between the 'B' and 't' supposed to resemble?

Not crazy, just a little perverted

Tilt your head to the left = boob
Tilt your head to the right = a very fat dreidel

On a serious note, nice board.

Nope, it WAS a European disease but given that the US is running roughly 600 years behind whats happening in Europe with everything it seems about right that they start to get this about now....

Actually dreidels are Four sided blocky looking things.

I know this from having Jewish roommates and South Park.

Settable to several levels. Boots up OFF oddly enough but I haven't played with DIP switches yet.

Thanks for showing, imho the leds really don't work all that nicely on the keys with a shifted symbol on them (higher up on the cap); not much they can do about it, but still sort of a shame. Would be pretty cool if, once shift is held, the upper part starts to glow and the lower parts dimm.
And why is 'fn' not lit?

Posted: 26 Jun 2012, 16:03
by ripster
Real men know their shifted characters by heart.

The FCN key backlighting is a setting. Haven't figured them all out yet.

Interesting side note.

I cross posted this at OCN to see where I get the most views.

http://www.overclock.net/t/1274325/kbta ... x-red-pics

So far it is DT 2:1 over OCN. Now THAT is a change.

Can a Geekhack member please copy pasta this by using the QUOTE icon and post at Geekhack in their PICTURES Subforum? Then I'll track the page views there.

FOR SCIENCE!

Thanks!

Shame they switched from pink to orange. I totally digged the pink LEDs. It's just how I role (and my girlfriend loved them, so it wouldn't be so bad for me to get...).

I certainly see your point to having the arrow keys under the dominant fingers in home position, but I also see their point of having the hand in a more natural position while both holding down FN and using the arrows. As with anything, it's something to get used to, and then it won't bother you. This is WAY better than HHKB's idiotic solution! ;-P

The one gripe I have about the Pure is that `~ is way over to the right, rather than next to the 1 key. I would love to reprogram my ESC to be my ~, and maybe make FN-~ be ESC, or just add an external switch above ~ to serve as a detachable ESC. Yeah, laugh it up. :-P

Since I have NEVER seen KBStalking print their name in ASCII, but ALWAYS with the (blob) Squirrel, I think they are laughing every time someone writes KBTalking. It's KBStalking, as in KeyBoardStalking, which is what we do on the 'netz, right? ;-P

I thought the acorn key looked like a pacifier, but a pacifier is just a boob substitute... whatever floats your boat. Personally, I like it. Aside from the ESC/~ problem, this is now my favorite keyboard. I'm even learning to like the Cloud Of Boobs as much as the Blues. I'm still faster on Blues though. There is just something reassuring about the clickity clack of a good mechanical switch activating.

Good point, but I'd say shorten that darn space then!

I'd have it in reverse, but it seems neither is possible... now that's a dealbreaker. On principle.

Now that is an interesting take... never saw any of us westerners write KBS afair! To be fair, I'd say a case can be made saying what we are doing is 'KeyBoardTalking' as well. ;)

That symbol isn't all bad, I agree. Still looks like a spinner or an acorn to me. Ofcourse, being meant as an acorn that would be a good thing.

PS: you can turn on the FN key by hitting FN-z (printed sw3 on the frontside of z), but then FN is "ON" in both senses, Anyway, it's under your hand when you're typing, so you don't really need it lit, unless you hunt and peck. No one here hunts and pecks, right?

Also, a little right-angle adapter does wonders for the look and function of the USB cable. ;-)

Rotated for the OCD:

So why again did you buy a backlit board?

How do you mean it being 'on' in both senses? That it doesn't lit up when you press it only (which would be pretty damn stupid), or what?

1) I like your idea of shortening the space bar and adding the FN key in that space! Then we could have the Command key back on the right, where it usually is.

2) I mean that when you hit FN-z you turn on the FN key (as if you were holding it down, but you don't have to hold it, so your arrow keys will function as arrow keys with only one finger needed--it's like a FN-lock). FN-lock also turns the LED on under the FN key, just like Capslock does. I hope that is clearer. :-)

Yep, what Captain said.

Thanks for the right angle USB tip, I'm not generally a fan of removable cables and was trying to think of a way to rig up a strain relief.

The gripe I have is the usual: Too much spacebar, meaning too little thumb action and not enough programability.

Why these filthy expensive luxury mechanical keyboards don't all come with full programability is mystery to me.

Yes, I'll take the aluminium case please, and backlights as well. What? Oh, no just the cheap controller please I want to fight with people about the arrow key placement.

....dafuq?

Stop whining then and buy a Japanese HHKB or Filco Zero.
