Even though I was really carefull a lot of rivets broke just by looking at it.

Nice Model M! I've never had an unboxing experience with an IBM. But I do have the (apparently) French Canadian brother to yours, arty numpad included:

Pity about those broken rivets. They're quite unpredictable things, as I've had pretty beaten up Model Ms with a full set too!

I think the rivets just go with time, even if the keyboard is unused. Plastic can only stay together for so long...

I see you're positive thinking, since you could have also made the smiley like because of the broken rivets!

Interesting is that the box label looks like the case label, or similar to it. So they used the same template, and the difference is the barcode, and on the box it says "Ship No" and on the case "Part No".
