Old computers are fascinating because there is so much variation. In the early days
there wasn't a common platform. Most kind like Beta and VHS - but on steroids, and that just made things more interesting.
So true. Many computers these days are quite boring and uninspiring.

The variation we see is mostly in form of fading fashion trends on the outside of the Intel PCs, only meant to make the PC look old a couple of years ahead in time: and it is also one or a few companies that start it and the rest of the industry that follows - not many brands that ever try to stand out. Keyboard layouts are the same and user interfaces are the same as they have been since Windows 95, basically. Sure, tablets are trendy right now, but tablets are very limited in how you can use them for proper work compared to a PC or Mac.
