Is there really a difference in feel betwen a full PBT dyesub set and a PBT lasered set?

In the end i like the way that doubleshots look over everything else. They are thick and i'm 99% sure I can't tell the difference between them. IMO, the thickness matters the most (that's what she said).

If you go winkeyless, I have some Dye Sub RGB sets to match

Cherry Dye Sub PBT are as thick as doubleshot and POM keys. I have never tried them, so I can't say if there is any difference in feel.

There are older thick Cherry lasered keys from some early generation G80 and G81 boards. These are 100% identical to the dyesub ones, apart from the labelling. If you can live with the (extremely ugly) laser labeling on these, there is no reason not to get them.

These came out in the early 90s and laser-labeling technology was not what it is today. The labels are usually very rough and somewhat faded in color.

So there's a difference between dye subs and the new obtained. But how about between dye subs and cherry doubleshots? When they are that thick does pbt really make a $300+ difference?

PBT feels and sounds quite different from the ABS double shots. Furthermore there are a few more obvious reasons:

* These PBT keys basically keep their texture and do not go shiny (at least not for a very, very long time)
* They do not yellow - I have seen a G81 with a completely banana yellowed case and the keys remained milky white

It does not make a $300 difference to me, the prices are ridiclious. I don't think the price is made based on the quality of the keys, but more their rarity.

How do I tell the keyboards with thick PBT key caps apart from the ones with thin PBT caps?
That is.. without pulling a key and looking at it?

Easy way: Dented F and J keys = thick PBT, F and J key with a "bar" = thin PBT

The reason that I type on an AEKII and an M0116 for so long was not the ALPS, it was the PBT caps.

I have a set of Cherry thick PBTs lasered (tried for a couple of hours) but I still prefer the feel of Cherry ABS doubleshots as they are more comfortable and smooth, less dry/harsh than pbts and more bottom forgiving... call me dumb, but that's how I feel about them :/
