Interesting, I'm starting to think this is a FUTUBA type switch.

Assembly either by wong (wang?) or hi tek it seems.

I am really really sure this is a Futaba switch now (also found a part number reference to Futaba, MD-4PCS). As the style of actuation is also similar (though more complicated...).

You have to twist out the through pins, and then the orange cap comes off (don't yank them like I did...).

I know there are cherry animated GIF's that show you the action inside of a switch, i would love to see an animation of this switch.

Looks like something I would never be able to put back together after opening. So, is the one you got a clicky switch too?

I actually managed to put it back together again, working perfectly fine! (multi-meter tested).
Though I recommend an exacto knife to remove the sticker from the mini switch.

As for the feel, it's linear, with a bit of a sticky feel on the rise if you bottom out. However, the switch actuates very early in the press, as it does not take much for for the mini switch to "switch on".

I'm super crappy at drawings so that's not happening. However, I do know where to get more of these keypads AND where to buy the switches in a sizable quantity.


Let's see if I can paint a picture in your mind though:

As the key is pressed down, the small metal arm is pushed closer and closer towards the small "mini-switch". Once enough force from the metal arm is pressed against the "mini-switch", the "mini-switch" pops inwards, turning on the switch. Nothing more happens as the key is pressed further down.

On the releasing, once there isn't enough force the "mini-switch" pops back and turns off the switch.

I think it might be a foam and foil switch in the inside of that case. I'm pretty sure I've seen one before on that Japanese switch overview page.

The cross looks quite large. Reminds me of the (horrible) switch on Atari ST keyboards.

Yeah I couldn't figure it out either. The guy called it "ALPS" but I doubt it, I went searching around the asian sites with no luck.

All these damn old terminal linears.

Maybe it was a temporyry switch, one that was made just at that time in small quantity.

That way it may not be so well known.
