Cool. I created the page. Where is WYSIWYG editor? :-(

EDIT: I found MediaWiki extension for Microsoft Word. I am golden!

I'm interested in editing the HHKB category from the wiki but I'm worried about breaking something.

I want to add info of the HHKB PRO JP but when I press Edit it opens a window and I don't know what should I do :lol:

I wouldn't worry too much. What usually works is copy and edit bits from others, so you have the right syntax. If you break something, it keeps historic versions for backup.

Just write the title HHKB PRO JP (or whatever) into the search bar and click create.

Then paste this into the empty window:

Code: Select all

Do you think a glossary/list of abbreviations would be an enrichment for the wiki? I already tried to create one, but I didn't want to to post it, for it currently only consists of 4 entries which are all, more or less, tiny parts of articles shamelessly stolen from Wikipedia... :oops:

Edit: Oh well, see for yourselves:

Code: Select all

This glossary and list of abbreviations is nowhere near complete, so feel free to add any terms that seem relevant to you.

== A ==
;AT: Synonym for the 5-pin DIN connector that is electrically and protocol-wise (but not mechanically) identical to the PS/2-conncector, or 6-pin Mini-DIN connector. In the original IBM PC, PC/XT and PC/AT, as well as the Amiga, it was used as the connector for the computer keyboard cable.

== N ==
;NIB: New in box, meaning that the item that is NIB is either really new, i.e. just a few days old and never used, or older but never used as well. Older things that are labeled NIB, are often 'new old stock'.

== P ==
;PS/2: The PS/2 connector is a 6-pin Mini-DIN connector used for connecting some keyboards and mice to a PC compatible computer system. Its name comes from the IBM Personal System/2 series of personal computers, with which it was introduced in 1987.

== U ==
;USB: Universal Serial Bus (USB) is an industry standard developed in the mid-1990s that defines the cables, connectors and communications protocols used in a bus for connection, communication and power supply between computers and electronic devices.

But never did anything about it.

Well, at least the stuff he posted on his website is copyright protected, so I don't know whether this is the case with the things he posted here, as well... :?

Just wanted to contribute here by saying any images I've posted (in the past and upcoming) of my Topre boards are fair game for the Deskthority wiki.
I don't have experience editing wiki articles and I tend to dwell too much on whether or not something looks right so if someone ever plans to flesh out the Topre section, then feel free to use any images I've posted.

Mine too.

Just use the watermark. Or put it in using Verdana if it's an old pic. Futura if you must. Never Comic Sans.

Do you mean "add little texts there" or "make articles and add links to them there", because right now there are only links to actual articles, and I don't think that it would be worthwhile to write a whole article for every term I have in mind, because they would just be too short. :?

I guess you're right. It also depends on the number of terms (over time) and how it is used, to read from start to end or to search. If there are many terms and people just want to search for a term, articles scale better.

The wiki entry says the Cherry G80-3700 numpad is an ongoing series:
http://deskthority.net/w/index.php?titl ... y_G80-3700

This Cherry page has labeled it obsolete however:
http://www.cherrycorp.com/english/keybo ... /index.htm

So the wiki entry should be updated, but does anybody know the year it was declared obsolete? I just found it by accident.

I just went to the German pages to see if they had also removed it. Turns out THEY REMOVED EVERY SINGLE G81 and G80 keyboard. What the fuck?

http://cherry.de/cid/kabeltastaturen.ht ... &WT.mc_id=#

I wonder if they are actually all gone/discontinued for good or if they just forgot/did not bother to re-add them to their new website.

Can we get single-sign-on for the wiki?

Looks like there are MediaWiki and phpBB extensions to do it?

We're currently using one, but it isn't smart enough to skip the requirement to log in twice. This seems unnecessarily because the wiki runs on the same domain (i.e. it has access to the phpbb cookie).

I'd like to port over a Keyboard Font Wiki (Various Manufacturers - Cherry, IBM, Filco, Das, etc and the fonts they use on their keys and logos) from my Geekhack subforum (now that it has been virtually closed).

But I get this message.

You do not have permission to edit this page, for the following reason:

The action you have requested is limited to users in the group: Users.

You can view and copy the source of this page:
How do I get to be part of "Users".

BTW I hereby promise not to mention nickels in this Keyboard Font Wiki and will not touch anybody else's wiki without prior permission.

Derp. Should have read bhtooefr's comment.

TIL I learned how to start a MediaWiki page. Now it's RTFM time. I'll be cleaning it up and turning it into a more "Wiki" style in time.

Unlike Geekhack I don't have to look at a spinning icon for 1 minute after each edit!

What I do is just copy/paste pages or snippets from other pages to get the structure.

Yeah, that's how I figured out headings (sort of)

Now for images!

Too bad you don't have an image manager so I could reuse these.

20th Century Font?
HP Laptop

Grotesque on my KB400? Praxis definitely for their logo.

I should PM Pylon to make sure he doublechecks it when it's all done.

Well, that was fun, shoving templates into the wiki, and adding a bunch of redirects in places.

If you see an incomplete article, or you start one, tag it with {{stub}}, please. That way, it gets tossed into Category:Stubs, which can be brought to people's attention more easily.

Great! Been busy categorizing myself.

User avatar

Speaking of categorizing, can Template:Infobox Unternehmen be deleted?

Nothing uses it, and Template:Infobox Company (which was identical before I started editing stuff) is used instead.

Going through the needed articles, I'm beginning to see a style issue that will bite us in the ass if we don't fix it soon.

Alps vs. ALPS.

My vote on that one is, use what the company calls themselves, which is Alps, not ALPS.

If a few of us agree on that, I'll go ahead and move articles that do not comply. There could be some double redirect issues that need to be cleaned up, but the sooner we standardize, the better.

Edit: Also, when there's a conflict between US and UK English, I'm assuming UK English wins?
