Wodan wrote: Oh meh I didn't want to turn this into a discussion ... let's just say that Skidata+ hasn't hurt the sales of GMK Carbon.

Didn't mean to steal any credit from you for the great success your set is having so far but if you believe such sales/drops happen in complete isolation and aren't affected by other events in the same community, take a look at the brilliant GMK SNES Keycap Set that failed ... 100% because of itself?
SNES was never done before. The keysets i named previosly are real and are very popular. And by the way are you sure it was very welcomed by the majority? You find it brilliant and probably some other people too. But how about the majority? Indeed there was real hype about it on GH.

By the way, have i ever told Carbon was never affected by community events? It depends on community. It was never isolated. I would rather say Hack'd by Geeks influenced it.
Wodan wrote: Regarding the similairity of Skidata modifiers (OG or +) with Carbon modifiers, you kind of put me into a position where I feel like I need to defend myself. You posted GMK renders where GMK actually used the exact same ABS color codes as Skidata! The GMK render on the drop page also doesn't make a night-and-day difference obvious to me. If I am missing essential renders here that make it very obvious how Skidata and Carbon modifiers are very different colors?

Well, can't wait to get mine and see the difference for myself!
Shade difference. And as you said its only modifiers. Actually i got skidata+ and can compare both directly. You can check skidtata+ GB thread to see that i have participated.

Anyway i am tired of skidata comparison. Lets leave it as it is, there is Skiadata and there is Carbon. And i am glad i have both :)

Tombery wrote: This sale is influenced by Carbon itself 100%. Thats fact. Just look at Carbon SA request numbers at MD. Carbon SA sold over 700 base sets (and other kits summing upto 2.7k+ sold kits together) and still its very hard to get keyset. It sells in minutes on mechmarket for premium prices. Also it will be hard to find a person who wants to get rid off Carbon. Thats probably the biggest compliment for me if people dont want to sell their Carbon sets.

I've installed all my earlier SA versions onto some keyboards and let me tell you they look SUPERB :-D .

Although this latest GMK version is perfect for ordinary typists because the layout suits them much more than the SA sets. The SA sets are strictly for show, like a customized 1969-dodge-charger. Beautiful to look at but not nice to drive/use.

Suspect this GMK version will sell simply because all us addicts want to use their keyboards and this latest design will enable that easily. Thanks for this, always great to own another part of key-cap history here since this colour-way might be the last one that shall ever be made.

The popularity of CARBON is definitely because of the success of its first run in SA profile. Just check the sales of GMK Carbon on MD. I believe most of the buyers' motivation is SA Carbon, not Skidata. BTW, Skidata is also an amazing set, but I prefer Carbon personally.

Much like Wodan, I fail to see what the custom colors of Carbon bring to the table as I fail to see the difference between the colors, particularly the grey, used in Skidata and Carbon. Imo the difference between Carbon an a mix of skidata and classic beige must be very subtle and more pronounced in the beige rather than orange/grey if anything. Something about it looks more than a bit appealing, though, and the price is very appealing. But I don't understand why you want to argue that Carbon and Skidata are miles apart, because they aren't. Maybe someone with both Carbon and Skidata on hand can enlighten me and convince me otherwise?

Some sets have been a huge hit, don't know why, but this something personal. Carbon is one of them, next to Pulse, Penumbra, Calm something and Hyperfuse. Any of these run with GMK will be a huge hit, Hyperfuse sold over 400 units and it wasn't on MD !
It will sound rude from me but I like to say that the "circle jerk" is strong in these sets. I can only say BRAVO!!!! to the designer, this is a true gift to design something that pleases and hypes so many individuals.
I don't like the set due to the beige part, but that has nothing to do with this.

Well its your and Wodans POV. Probably there are others who share POV with you. There is no need to convince you because everybody has its own opinion.

Hey thanks.

No you dont sound rude if you call it "circle jerk", because it is one :) The hype is real.

Are there any plans of putting together a NORDE/International kit for the GMK Carbon sets?

I feel with the amount of sold sets we could reach 150 NORDE/International kit ...

I got no plans for it. But i would love to do it, if there is enough interest. Actually we have tryed to make an ISO-DE addon but it was actually late and we got not enough people. Also those european people who bought it, are definitely using an us ansi layout. So it will be probably hard to find 150 people.

I bet if just one kit manages to hit moq, interest would be great from that point on (for gmk drops in general).

Maybe we can work together on a small international kit?
Just get the bare essentials of the very common locales together ... DE-UK ?
Anything that benefits from the DE keys already to add to that ?

Should be able to put something together for 25-30€ with a 150 MOQ since there will be 0 new molds and hopefully only around 20 keys.

Yes lets do this. We should set up the GB pretty quickly since its better to make this addon from the same plastic batch as the base set.

Do you have the time and motivation to put together all required keys for a DE-UK kit ?

Once we've got that up we can ring up some other europeans and let them check if additional locales can be addes with just a few keys.

Really want this to happen, willing to help with funding, organisation, communication.

I can set up the kit, thats not the problem. The thing is i cant run a gb by myself, since i dont have much time (got baby and fulltime work) and i dont have merchant pp account. So there must be a GB leader. If you like to take the lead, so i have nothing against it. Depending on how far you live from me i can help you by sorting.

mhm ... Okay let's do this.

Most of the work will be packaging and labelling stuff :) I wouldn't do this if GMK didn't pre-sort the kits!

So we need the kit, then we need a quote and then we need input fast. I don't have a merchant Paypal account either but the last GB worked flawlessly. They had a limit for the funds I was allowed to receive but removed it once I verified my bank account with them.

Ok. You should pm me with your email, so i can start an email thread with gmk. Since we got weekend, we'll get the quote probably next week first.

By the way we can include some community keys for motivation.

I would have bought that Carbon set if I knew there is going to be that ISO-DE add-on.

Please consider adding 1 R2 Å. that would be realy nice for us swedes. i could ask if there's any interest at a local swedish forum.

No need for the <>| key. It's included in the Carbon base kit.

Add an R2 Å and the kit would work pretty decent with Swedish too.

Update for iso kit.
Two keys for ISO-DE has been removed since those are already available in the base set. Added missing ISO-UK key (|\).

Are you sure guys? AFAIK swedish is missing far more keys than R2 Å key.

Got dem samples for "custom" color plastic.
Keys with GMK are Skidata+. Keys with Q label are the new samples. SA profile keys are Carbon SA colors.
Beige:

Grey:

Orange:

Grey and beige are good and complement each other very well. I love that beige especially. However i couldnt see any difference between "new" orange and the already available V2 color. I've tried to find any difference under different light conditions but i couldn't. It is V2. Now the question is what to do. If i ask for darker Orange color this might delay teh production or i keep that orange color and the people who got skidata may mix and match their keys wtih carbon. Let me know your opinion. Shall we go straight for the darker orange?

Anyway one picture with all three samples together:

There is no light bleed:

Keep in mind during the injection process, there is a possibility for a hollow space between the bars of the legend grid. Those hollow spaces may cause light bleed. So its not 100% guaranteed that there will be no light bleed. Its possible that some keys (out of 1970+ base set were sold multiply with amount of keys of a base set) may get light bleed. So we might see some but in gerneral this should be some exceptional cases.

I was wondering, are they gonna be with this font of the legends for the end product? Or these are just some samples? Because it looks absolutely sexy.

Nope, the font will be the same as usual. I took these as samples because of that unique sign, thus i can point out better.
Here are all the samples i got:

I see, it would be very nice to have a first GMK set with large fonts =D, back to your question, the V2 orange is fine for me.

Aww, I thought the ISO-DE kit idea for carbon was off the table... If I knew that you were going to try getting the set made I would have ordered another base-kit on Massdrop.

Anyway, hope it hits MOQ, looking forward to it.
