They did copy!

Otherwise there would be no FIO, FII and FI2 but F1, all in the same row. FIO vs. F10 gives it away. I know bcause it was one of the first mistakes SP made that had to be corrected for Round 3.

Look at the orange on grey FII key (upper right):

Mindlessly mimicing SP's mistakes is just plain dumb. They must have looked at older SA keysets and just pulled out matching legend blocks under the misguided assumption that it is what the community would want.

Copying everything robotically aiming at creating a 100% accurate carbon copy - even the mistakes.

No wonder Asians are good at copying things, with Japan leading the trend since Meiji and China is going strong in here right now.

There exist a ton of genuine East Asian products, starting with porcelain.

Guess how the first German porcelain looked like ...

Hah right, "China" (porcelain) and "Japan" (lacquerware) are imported from China and Japan. :D

It was not the case a few centuries ago that "German" (???) are imported from "Germany" / Roman Empire - when the "Germans" were not yet having potatoes as one of the major ingredients of diet.

Once again brilliantly "abstract"! Jabberwocky Menuhin style. Next you can post how I "bully" you again.

"German" (???) can be beer, sausage, or now VW or Mercedes. One can call those "German", as that was how people called the import location of porcelain (called 'China' at that time) also with the name China.

It was difficult and actually unfit to use the word "German/Deutsche" to describe imaginary events in the early days of Holy Roman Empire and (not-so-united) Kingdom(s) of Germany.

[The concept of "Deutsche" was just emerging and crystallizing during the time of Holy Roman Empire, amidst all the fighting with the Vikings and the surrounding tribes - now some of those have lots of Germanic influence in their languages.]

It's seebart who wants to get me started again. You see? ;)
In case anyone of you are too abstract and poetic, I definitely won't PM you text with swear words and lots of shouting and exclamations marks like how he did. This is how he think himself as a forum elder should maintain the Ordnung of the forum.

p.s. Okay, I should not write so abstract too often. Otherwise seebart the Elder will get angry with me again. :P

Old man, buy more caps from 7bit's Round 5, 6, and 7 caps - or donate to support this German-American production run.
I know you should somehow be interested as you show up in this thread again. ;)

Aside from the blatant personal insults here let's link this so everyone can see the full sham brilliance here:

Regardless of their origin or how nice they are It is well known how many keycaps I buy from 7bit. Nill. Zero. This is in line with your general DT bewilderment and your fanatasies about "elders".

Yeah, well, that whole diskussion took a weird turn there. Could we please get back to the topic at hand, i.e. R7?

I don't really see the relevance in discussing how much of SP's legend design was used as 'inspiration' by Max Keys (and the discussion about Chinese culture and copying is turning into something kind of distasteful, to be honest). What's relevant to us is their capacity to make something of at least SP quality, what moulds they have, and of course prices and MOQs. Other options, such as XDA profile, are of course also interesting – at least to some of us, but they might not be what 7bit is after. I for one would be all over an XDA set using R7's colorway and symbolic legends.

If it's SA profile or nothing, the only options would seem to be Max Keys (or sending SP a big box of chocolates, melting their hearts and winning back their trust). The Key Clack GB for Max Keys sets have them at $75 for a standard set, which sounds really cheap. Perhaps it would be possible to do a trial run of a simple 108 key ANSI set and some novelties, using the most popular R7 colors? It would probably generate quite some interest, and also serve as a good way to assess what quality Max Keys can achieve and how easy they are to deal with.

I'd vote for green/cream combination

The problem with maxkeys is that we don't even know if they could produce ISO keycaps. Additionally they'll probably don't have any other legends that are offered here like colemak/dvorak or norde sets. And this would be for a base set without special legends. I don't think that we should rush into something, first of all let's see how the other group buy run with them and see if there is maybe a possibility running this group buy with SP in simplyfied version.

I can't read all this, but for sure the Saxons (not the Germans, how could someone think Saxons are Germans, they are surely not!) re-invented porcelain (in fact invented a new sort of porcelain, because they did not get it right 100% to copy Chinese porcelain).

You wouldn't get double-shot legends out of XDA, so that is a non-starter.
...sending SP a big box of chocolates, melting their hearts and winning back their trust...
SP's requirements for running R7 could conceivably be met right now, but I just don't think relinquishing control of the GB to someone else is in 7bit's DNA.

Well, a man can dream – right? ;) I'd be okay with dyesubs as long as the set retains the colorway, symbol legends, and retro look. But it's up to 7bit, and I seem to remeber he's not exactly a fan of dyesub PBT caps…

I don't think it's just relinquishing control that's the issue – SP also doesn't seem that keen on dealing with those wait times and a bazillion different kits. I'm sure 7bit could email Massdrop and have them run some incarnation of R7 in no time, but the number of kits and color combinations would probably have to be substantially reduced.

I can contribute to making chocolates if it is this simple to melt the heart of SP's Melissa again. ;)

Looks like in 'OEM' profile.
Should ask MaxKey to make some in the copycat SA profile - hope Chinese chocolate still taste good.
I can handcraft the Cadet legends of Round 6/7 onto them. It's a plus to have a digit art heart key alongside a Melissa key.

Right. I don't think 7bit would be okay with dyesub dark-on-light legends. I seriously doubt he'd compromise his vision of double-shot legends on fully sculptured SA keycaps.

True. The crazy number of kits is part of the problem. But coming up with a smaller set manifest is the easy part.

7bit could email MassDrop, but I'm pretty confident he won't. Like I said, it is simply not in his DNA to hand his group buys over to someone else.
