I wonder why geekhack is a frequent target for hackers. There are quite a few other forums with large member base.

Webwit should hack it and set up another deskthority with a white on black theme and the current Geekhack logo.

Nobody will be able to tell the difference, except for the better uptime.

It has nothing to do with being a well visited site or being "geekhack". Script-kiddies scan entire IP ranges and try everything. We also get 'em here, requests to vbb type urls, wordpress, etc. The urls don't even exist. It is vbb. My guess is they don't have very good security policies. Where other forum software seems to get more secure over time (they fix the holes, and over time there will be less and less), vbulletin seems to introduce new problems with each release. The script kiddies who hacked geekhack will have hacked a thousand others as well. They keep top lists, the one with most defaced sites wins. They won't even know geekhack, what the site is about and what traffic it gets.

Apologies for my ignorance in advance. Why exactly do these 'script-kiddies' do this? Is there any real reason outside of being a*sholes?

Well, bragging rights, but there is no way to brag about a scripted hack unless you're an a**hole anyway.

These hacks are done by an alien (pictured) who mods his keyboard, which contains the planet earth.

Next time you fumble about with your keyboard, mind the consequences for the micro organisms living in it!

What do you man "about to crash"?

OT:
I see you changed from #1 keyboard to #1 potato expert.

Any recommendations for a potato?

I'd like to have a mechanical one but can't decide which.

Thanks!

As in "about to crash". Dog slow response. I've seen the EU move faster.

Perhaps English is not your first language. You should see how bad my German is.

Nicht so gut!

And why are you Germans so unhelpful to this dude? He's complaining about Deskthority.net service:

What do you mean "about to crash"?

Explanation: GH crashed already, so it is not about to crash.

Your German is alright.

The German comunity is quite big here, but there is not much demand for using the German sub-forum, except for setting up local meetings Or other local stuff.

If the German section would vanish, nobody would even notice.

He should have posted just in the normal forum. Even Chinese post there, not problem to use whatever language.

My German is better than your English. Nicht wahr?

How come I'm not #1 Potato any more? I liked that so I now use it at Geekhack.

There are currently two hidden malware iframes inserted in geekhack's html (at the bottom). The iframe source url keeps redirecting to itself though, and seems to be not functional/disabled. Although maybe that's the point, to target some browser bug or make visitors part of a ddos attack elsewhere.
