Carmen McRae live at Newport Jazz Festival (1988)

The set includes several songs written by Thelonious Monk (her best album, Carmen Sings Monk, was also released in 1988). I really enjoy her performance, this beautiful old voice sounds as if there is a small circular saw somewhere down her throat...

(I just had a strange thought: Thelonious Monk must have been British, because if he was American, he would be Thelonios Monk, right?)
