What is this thing?

I don't know what keyboard it came out of, but whatever this thing is, it takes Futaba keycaps, so I'm guessing that it's something from Sejin. I have two, and they're completely useless.

Stabilisers?

That's a slider for some old Sejin membrane keyboards.

I was guessing that there's meant to be a spring under the slider. There was a loose spring amongst the switches, but it doesn't stay inside the switch, and I'm not sure that a spring could stay inside.

So in the picture of the underside, the spring won't fit around that dimple? Can't see how it could come out otherwise...

It's very hard to tell, but it seems that a spring won't fit around it, and it's the wrong shape to press on a spring anyway. It's from a Sejin keyboard, apparently (it came from cherry-jade) but my request for any photos of the keyboard went unanswered. (The fact that it's Sejin was fairly obvious, but it doesn't explain what on earth this thing is supposed to do.)

It was used in the membrane version of Sejin M8700. There maybe some other keyboards too.
Another example is on eBay. Basically it's the same M8700 with a different case.

I have a feeling that I have seen those before … I thought I had some photos of them in the stuff XMIT posted, but I guess not. I thought this page would explain how they work, but no.
