Re: (Model MF) Remodeling the Model M (aka.. the Mara)

There are a few projects out there for cutting down a full-size M case to fit the SSK form factor (I have one, posted in this thread, somewhere), so that is always an option. I recall that there was a plan to buy a bunch of loose cases from Unicomp (industrials, IIRC), but I don’t know what ever hap...

Re: (Model MF) Remodeling the Model M (aka.. the Mara)

Wow! Welcome back! I’ve been moving around a lot the last while, and each time I go through my bag of XT barrels, wondering if they’d be used again. Very glad that they will be!

Is this picking up right where it left off?

More than a month has passed, so bump bump :) A month has already passed since the last bump! Woah. There is no chance of this project coming back from the looks of it, but hope that atleast the rich users here can get this conversion kit. ;) LL will return when he's ready. I'm not so impatient tha...

The only thing I can think of would be to use small Topre-like springs under the domes to spring them back up, basically like a Foam and Foil switch.

Sometimes domes just wear out. It's a fact of their design.

You might be able to stick Alps switches in the plate, not sure.

Sorry to say something at this stage, but would it be possible to make the plates compatible with xt barrels? Is the only difference in the position of the pin, which in AT is at 4 o' clock, while in xt is at 6? This could be interesting because xt replacements cost less. Don't worry- it's already ...

As for "how's everyone" - I joined the ranks of Facebook 3 weeks ago, trying to drink from bootcamp firehose. CS is proven to be repeatable on $10 off the shelf protoboards, hostside utility still misses the macro editor (firmware has online-updatable macro support, but you need to manually edit bi...

I just got a new job, and, as I feared, they're a little iffy on clicky keyboards. So either this will be for home use only, or I'll need to find a way to damp away some of the noise. (In the meantime, I've shacked up with a FC980C) So I'll all ears about good ways to silence. Do we have a list of a...

Neat! I'd love to see that comparison again, but with something clicky, like zealistotles or blues.

The trade off on bottoming out is the same as in Alps/Matias damped.

If either of you do decide to do the paper mod, I will say that it is a bit tricky to do properly. The paper has to be not too small, or it will simply deform the leaf. The trick is to put pressure on the flaps of the leaf to make it stop acting like a mini-clicky switch. Another way of doing it is ...

Alps are a great bet. Orange Alps (like I saw you posting about) are fabulous. I use a 60% of SKCM Alps at work and love it to death. If it is a bit loud (or you are a Type-S Topre lover), you can silence it even more in a few ways. 1) Slider swap: I use a Orange-Damped Cream hybrid switch, with cre...

Some years ago I also did some experiments with thin rubberband instead of floss... But it affected the feel too much. It just felt not right. If you put a bit of carbon on the spring (rub a pencil on it), and then put a small slip of paper in the barrel, you'll be able to see where the spring contacts the paper. If you take a couple samples, I suspect they will all contact at about the same place. A dab of silicon there would be interesti...

I'd agree for common sense. Unifying things now only makes things easier down the line, for little cost. Plus, it makes it easier to maintain.

For layers, I can't imagine being able to keep track of more than 4 layers. I only use 1 additional fn layer, but that's just me.

I've been using 50g and 40g springs for a while in creams. The 40g are for my mods (linear modded) and the 50s are for my alphas. It makes them feel great. The lower actuation force makes them a lot smoother, but also a lot less tactile. For me, that's great. The typing feel is really nice. I love l...

Basically what I already have for my 60% (different mod assignment, but same keys). Looks great, is great.

58 switches all you need for a rad 60%.
