Re: Heat inserts on Model M Barrel Plate?

> (I passed it on to DMA, who was more committed and perhaps violent to succeed!) Actually I haven't noticed anything like that. Probably USPS has something to do with that - the donor XT arrived in a box that looked like it encountered a steamroller along the way, and the F122's top shell simply cr...

Re: ESSK - Enhanced FSSK PCB.

That's an awesome project. I'm thinking of cutting and bending (i have a sheet metal roller at my workshop) a plate for this. I am not too updated though on the whole buckling spring state of things currently though. Except of the pcb, i assume the barrels, flippers and springs are aviable as new? ...

Re: ESSK - Enhanced FSSK PCB.

That would be very nice! Regarding the matrix, this just means that the normal firmware for the xwhatsit can't be used? classic xwhatsit firmware has runtime-configurable layout - so you'll just need to spend some time in the config utility, mapping the keys. I've never run QMK, so I'm not sure how...

Re: ESSK - Enhanced FSSK PCB.

I noticed a week ago that I forgot to connect one half of the T key - which ruined my whole batch. That was fixed immediately, so if you want to order some - I can share gerbers. One important caveat - while those boards are 8x12, key layout is different from FSSK (probably) - I didn't have to prese...

Ahh, БК-0010Ш, my first computer. Had to write programs in the notebook because there wasn't much time at the console.. When life gives you ghosting - make anti-ghosting matrix! Resistors are there to limit the current flowing thru the switch (mostly to protect the chip outputs). Figure out which wa...

PCB tracks coRRRRRRRosion?
Could also be breadcrumbs ingress - even very small particles getting under the plate materially lower the levels (although on the beamspring it will likely cause spontaneous keypresses rather than chatter).

If the former, however, then hard disagree here. The number of times I have been screwed over by bad software & regressions that get introduced after an "upgrade" is not insubstantial. My point exactly - never upgrade unless you absolutely need to - every new major version is downhill, every upgrad...

They’re much nicer caps than the Vortex ones you linked. But they’re so exxtra that they render all attempts at backlighting entirely moot. Well, if by "nicer" you mean "thicker" - then sure, backlight isn't an option. Also it's kinda stupid for backlighted keys to have black legends. And if "nice"...

Glue may be a good option too if the plastic is not transparent ... or it is transparent and you do not care about the looks.
Why not use solvent as a glue and press things together? Should result in decently transparent interface

CY8CKIT-059 has enough GPIOs. It's not QMK-compatible, but I'm pretty happy with CommonSense (which is made to be capacitive controller, but works with electrical contacts. Doesn't have anti-ghosting, but just don't press to many keys at once :)

How about just gluing layers together? You'll still need screws for the bottommost layer, but otherwise glue should provide better joints.

Indeed! Are you considering RGB LEDs, by the way? I could see user 'programmable' groups of different colours / brightness for static backlights in different keyboard regions as a legitimate use-case for those; and a nice complement to various colorways in caps. Of course those will be RGB LEDs. No...

Welcome to the club! Try not to get sucked in too deep!

Model M is ohmic, so instead of doing triple-conversions you can flash QMK into your arduino and connect it directly to matrix. This requires some soldering though (NOT TO THE RIBBON CABLE!)
