Re: Early Industrial Model M
Since there are no pictures of the inside for this part number I figured I would share what I have. The first thing I noticed about the inside of this board is that the metal plate is bolted to the frame unlike later Model M's which you could just take out. This one is bolted on the left side unlike...

Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!
So you just do the wax boild method but with tallow instead of candle wax? Does it feel different? Normally I would feed you guys some BS As much as I was joking about using beef tallow as a lubricant for switches it does serve as a natural lubricant for those seeking sustainable alternatives to pe...

Re: Help Dating a Silver Badge Model M
Another really interesting find. It seems that the controller is quite atypical for a production Model M from 1985. 1987/88 Model M Controller: origcontroller.jpg 1985 GE Model M: IMG_8201.JPG @Rocco's 1985 Model M: What this heck is going on here? Re: Help Dating a Silver Badge Model M
To make this model M keyboard usable as a daily driver, you could certainly substitute a replacement top and bottom case assembly from https://www.clickykeyboards.com/product/model-m-top-and-bottom-case-assembly-lexmark-led-overlay-2-elevator-feet-2-rubber-round-feet-4-screws/ or find other sources...

Re: Help Dating a Silver Badge Model M
I have to be honest I got over excited about it. I agree with you as both the features you pointed out were my first indicators on thinking the coating was not original in the first place. My initial goal was to remove the coating completely, but seeing another board with similar looks made me thin...

Re: Help Dating a Silver Badge Model M
Thank you for this! It makes me happy knowing that the black covering is potentially original. The black finish and the missing piece in the bottom case will be professionally repaired in the future. I will once again look inside the case for that date stamp in case I missed it. The only pictures I...

Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!
After much trial and error, I believe I have found the best solution for restoring Alps switches. Normally I would feed you guys some BS and recommend switching to buckling springs :evilgeek: Without much further ado, here is the next best thing short of a time machine: Think of this like a wax boil...

Re: Heat inserts on Model M Barrel Plate?
That being said, there are a variety of threaded insert designs out there, most aren't melt insert. A self tapping insert would probably work best. That's an interesting option. I haven't seen these for plastic before but they do not look like a cost effective option. I just really like the idea of...

Re: Heat inserts on Model M Barrel Plate?
This has been done before! I have yet to try it but would like to try it as I have spare parts and some cracked barrel plates I can use to experiment with.

I would certainly value it under $300 considering it is just the module and missing a few keys but what a great save and these early SW series switches are hard to come by these days
Considering inflation the 29.75 would have been much better spent in the stock market

Re: Has the Mini-M replaced the need for an SSK?
I would ask if they would ship the SSK for a few extra bucks rather than drive so far. This way you can experience the old and the new and If you choose to sell it you could do so at a modest price which would likely be a bargain compared with what these these often sell for. Utimately it should end...
