Re: Strange terminal keyboard

It's an IBM 3276 compatible keyboard with Futaba MD switches.
wiki/Futaba_MD_series

There are lots of IBM compatible keyboard that use non-IBM switches such as Honeywell SD and Keytronic foam and foil switches.

Re: Opinions

The leaf spring that MY uses for membrane actuation flexes when bottoming out in a way that imparts a very unusual feeling to the key travel. This combined with the difficulty in restoring the switch makes them an unattractive switch all around. I would also mention the kind of MY switch you used b...

The open secret about HiPro is they’re just not very good. The most boring sphericals I’ve ever typed on.
Isn't boring good for something you use and rely on everyday? Or do you prefer to keep yourself on your toes and keep switching things up with different layouts and different key profiles?

Re: NKRO keyboards for art installation

So I bought some simple USB membrane dell keyboards to do the break test. They are extremely solid.. I don't think I can break them even if I really try. Can you place the membrane keyboards above a heat map sensor? Nobody would know if the keypresses came from the keyboard or the heat map sensor. ...

Re: Hesitating whether to spend $1000 on a 6580 Beamspring

I would say aside from the price the next most important thing is the layout. If you cannot get used to the layout, then it becomes a show piece. There are a few things that some people may find hard to get used to such as no numpad, function keys that only go up to 10, and only one modifier key on ...

Are those stabilizer clips extra/broken? Is a replacement controller and solenoid addon already included?
Has the foam been replaced? Is the plate refinished and painted? Was there any rust?
It would help to show the inside as well so people can assess the condition of this keyboard.

Re: Great/Interesting Finds

I’m curious how the oak switches compare to buckling spring. It would be a shame to spend a lot of money on rare board and wind up with an inferior typing experience. The keyfeel is awful, but the intention is for reliability, not keyfeel. https://old.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/avj4m...

https://i.imgur.com/WCIsV14.png https://i.imgur.com/shfOzs0.png Just my two cents, but maybe the sliding magnet can be moved into the stem to make space for LEDs on both sides of the switch. Having the magnet in the middle of the switch will give a more even tactile feel. The hall sensor can be pla...

If it was 30g across the board, I’d be into it. ;) What if I told you all keyboards have variable weighting as Topre tolerances are +/- 15 grams? Re: Ellipse's F77: a belated review (with some pontification thrown in).

Then again, by making the spacebar itself the primary actor to activate the function layer, it becomes trivial to activate it, because you can use either thumb to hold it down. I have to admit that having the function layer 3 activated by the space bar, creates some spurious F11 triggers when typin...

With a lighter spring and the same click bar thickness, the tactility will increase as the lighter spring will give less support after the tactile event. I tried this on a new MacBook M1 Pro (Apple silicon), and also on a mid-2013 MacBook Air. Neither computer recognizes the keyboard. I think your experience is accurate and there is no need to do any more modding. My Alps SKCM orange switches feel less tactile than 45g Topre.
