Re: New Beamspring Converters on Ebay

It's usually a timing thing. If you can cut down the timing on the solenoid to minimum, then you won't get any problems at least up to 85wpm. Probably faster, but that's about as high as I can go. I'm not particularly fast. Thomas had the problems in his video because the owner hadn't tuned the sole...

And they are gone. The first person who contacted me, a great guy from Austin, came and picked them up this morning for his open source 3278 terminal to PC project. I look forward to seeing that.

Re: Problems flashing an M110A converter (again)

You can also try AVRDUDESS with the SS. It has a GUI and lets you know if what you selected is detected. I use it for all my pro-micro clone flashes.

Plus it keeps the controller in bootloading mode once detected so you don't have to worry about a few second timer.

IBM 3174 system (3270 protocol) remote and local controllers for free, local pickup Reposting some stuff from a couple years ago. I've traded away the actual beamspring keyboard awhile back, but the rest of the gear is taking up space in the bottom floor of my condo in the capital. I figured if you ...

Re: Cherry MX 5000 Board Repair - help needed - ZC86963P

Doh, yeah, it's a resistor array. That's what I get for posting as soon as I got up before coffee. You can double-check it with your meter in ohm mode between the pins just to be sure it's all good. The main thing is there's some commonality between the keys being shown as pressed and the sense bit....

Re: Cherry MX 5000 Board Repair - help needed - ZC86963P

Well, the main chip is getting power and talking to the computer just fine. The stuff you pulled is powering the shift register for columns I think? Can't tell with the passthroughs under the chip. What I would do is put all the parts back in, reflow the stuff listed here, the connects and the passt...

Re: Cherry MX 5000 Board Repair - help needed - ZC86963P

If you pulled a capacitor and everything worked fine, then I would just leave it yanked and call it a day. Or go and reflow all the solder joints on the board, put in your replacement cap and see if that fixes it before anything gets more involved. That's pretty much the old "Did you try turning it ...

Re: Designing a custom Topre board

Yep. Your gear works with any capacitive anything I've ever come across. You just need to source the physical switches from somewhere and stuff like Topre, Tall Keytronic or Model F having discrete switches means all you really need is a custom plate and PCB with the pads for whatever you want. Hell...

Hey snacks, just wanted to say thanks again for your work with this. I have a copy of the QMK settings I used in the thread I put up for my Epson, and it should probably work for your one with a new controller after you reassign the pins to match up. Might save you a bit of time. These really are gr...

You wired the diodes inline with the rows. They should go from the column to the row.

Special thanks to snacks for his previous work on this stuff. It sure helped me get up off my ass and get this done. https://i.imgur.com/jbw6ZqK.jpg Here's his matrix trace with a few additions. Price drop. I honestly have no idea what cherries go for nowadays, but about five and a half cents a switch seems like it should be a good deal. If I'm outta my gourd, somebody speak up.

I thought about bidding, but I've already owned one of those maxiswitch kind of boards before (an old Cybernetix). They're pretty neat and clean up well, but I wouldn't say it's worth more than $100 shipped unconverted.

Re: Epson Q703C-AA Clean up and conversion

Max current is about 20mA for a standard LED. So 12V supply where V=IxR you get 12/560 is 21mA. So for a 5V supply you want 5/.020 or about 250 ohms. You should get some light past 6mA or so which is why they're still lighting up now, but not at max brightness. 1.6 is the drop voltage. It's only a c...

Re: Epson Q703C-AA Clean up and conversion

So Snacks, after watching your work, I decided to go ahead and bruteforce mine and just desolder everything and jam a Teensy 2++ in there. I just needed one bit of clarification. You basically chopped every row connect on all rows, kept the columns, then made new rows with the diodes, right? Can I g...

[SOLD] Cherry MX switch project leftovers (black/blue/tactile gray)

Trying to clean out a few boxes of bits and stumbled across stuff I put away four or five years ago. These are leftovers from some swaps I did on some 75% boards back when. Figured I'd see if anyone was interested in these oddballs. Blacks and Blues are desoldered, some more cleanly than others. I g...

Re: Soviet Model F clone with capacitive buckling springs

You can slap a DMA or Xwhatsit in anything capacitive as long as you have a proper number of rows and columns. You just have to be willing to detach or desolder the original controller bits.

What a unique and really cool board.

Re: Epson Q703C-AA Clean up and conversion

I know your pain. If it was simple, I would have bruteforced mine long ago too. I would leave the dampeners alone though. Second gen fujitsus like this are rare. Best solution would probably be just straight swapping in some 3rd gen sliders from another board. But then I don't mind them stock at all...

Re: Epson Q703C-AA Clean up and conversion

There's no diodes on this board. Replacing the controller makes it like 1KRO. While it claims NKRO natively with the buffer. Also, I remember trying to use that scan module originally and IIRC it's not compatible with the modern version of the firmware. I never got anything but error press codes wit...
