Re: Weird buckling spring keyboard..

Going carboot sale hopping today, found this oddball of a keeb in Wolverhampton. It has buckling springs and feels weirdly like an IBM Model M. Here are some images: https://imgur.com/a/NByOqPf If anyone can lmk what this is or if anyone has any ideas, that'd be great! Also see Syncan in the wiki: ...

Re: Question for everyone with a Focus FK-555 (need info)

I don't own one of these, but I have seven FK-555s in my Focus database, including one that's Northgate-branded. Six of those have blue Alps SKCM switches; the seventh has cyan Omron B3G-S. I didn't save cable or connector information, but I'd be surprised to see anything other than a DIN5 and a coi...

Anyone have an idea on this big block of black. It has a 5pin din connector and no label at all. Has a funky line design on the back that I’ve never seen before. Is it some sort of cherry board? Any help is appreciated! Early generic LCD luggable. The slots latched it to the front of the case for t...

Re: Stuff you just bought

Just found a Silitek SK-0002-1M at my favorite junk store. White Pine SKCM (1991, not the early ones), and immaculately clean inside. It was literally laying on the ground outside, but not a bit of yellowing. Multicolor Taiwanese (?) legends on printed caps. Serial number is 910100011, probably the ...

Re: Matias Half QWERTY / LZ CLS: Alps SKCL Green RGB mod

Neat to see this, thanks! Are the holes in the PC board plated through? If so you'll have a good contact area for the solder to be supported and it should hold up fine for normal use. If you're really worried you can use 2 percent silver solder such as Qualitek 32521 for added strength (and conducti...

Re: Northgate Omnikey 102 Gold label question

Sorry, I'm a bit late coming in on this. I've been keeping a database of Northgate keyboards (also Focus, Monterey, and a few others) and here's what I have so far on Gen 1/Gold Label Northgates. 26 total on the list at present. 17 of those have blue SKCM switches, 5 have white SKCM, and 4 I don't h...

There are a couple other black 7u Alps spacebars if it helps anyone. Micro Connectors (Mac) and Datacomp DFK-191 (non-winkey versions). Matching the exact shade of black can be a challenge though. The Micro Connectors is a bit lighter in color than the Focus, the Datacomp more of a dark gray/green.

Heck, why don't we do a group buy for a luggable with a nice Alps keyboard? Like the IBM 5140 but with modern hardware. We are already doing tons of custom cases so why not take it up a notch? The zeroth-generation boards are 727, 747, and 555. Even the really early blue Alps FK-2001s were nothing like them. Besides, all black FK-2001s that I know of were from the early 90s; several years later than the oldest FK-2001s. The black ones are old, but not THAT old, it seems. The caps on this...

Is this how group buys always work - don't pay at first and get stuff later on for half price? I've never participated in one before...and probably won't again.

Not necessarily for White Alps. I got a K104 with white Alps for $40 shipped last year, granted it was in awful condition, but I bet with some patience one could find one in a bit better condition for around $60-70.
