Re: Alps Appreciation

Acer KB123 with SKCM Blue Alps! I replaced the original macro keys at the top with blanks for now because some of the keycaps were missing. Also appears to be missing a power button/joystick on the upper corner, although I can't verify what used to belong there. Also has quite a funky layout, with ...

Re: Get the PITCHFORK key ready! Microsoft intends to molest the keyboard layouts again.

The Windows and Menu keys weren't standard either back in the day, but MS forced them onto the standard by... well... force. I bet $$$ they're already pushing OEMs to adopt these changes, too. Of course they are. After Win95 came out any manufacturer that wanted to put the trademarked Windows keys ...

Re: Ebay Tai Hao Alps Keycaps???

Thanks, that's definitely the same listing, on page 6 of the keycap section. They don't specifically say Alps or MX on the KPRepublic site, but I'm with you that they must be Cherry, as I originally suspected. It sure would be nice to have some Alps sets available, but they have to go where the mone...

Or are these really MX caps mislisted as Alps?

Snacks, I rarely reply to non-technical posts, but to me you are one of the "good guys" who make this site worthwhile and because of that I need to share a few words. Re: Odd Northgate Gold Label!

Thanks! I've been wanting to try my hands on blue alps for a while since it's quite the competitor to the capacitive buckling spring. & I've read that the Northgate OmniKey is the vintage keyboard to have where the case is just solid. Finally, the largest itch of my life will finally be relieved (;...

I saw this one this morning but didn’t notice the 1u until you mentioned it, haha. I offered the guy 160, but I don’t think he’ll take it. If it’s blues its not a bad deal at its current price though! I wish I could afford to buy it just because. From the inspection number, or vendor serial number,...

Right now I'm frustrated. Not because this is a particularly big task, but because I don't know how/why it happened in the first place. I'm even more frustrated that my nice new desoldering iron didn't come with a tip sized for Alps pins (I know, how dare the manufacturer). This is compounded by th...

Odd Northgate Gold Label!

This just popped up on ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/333315674197 It's a Gen1 Northgate with a couple odd variations I haven't seen before. First it has a 1u backspace, with odd positions for the "floating" keys to accommodate that. Second, it has an on/off switch. Third, it has a "1xxxxxxx" inspec...

Well, that is a shame. I can always map the macros I was wanting to put on print screen/scroll lock/pause onto insert/home/page up and it will work just fine. Re: Alternative blue alps switch?

Blue Alps keyboards sell on ebay fairly often for a lot less than $400, you just need patience, persistence, and a bit of luck. For example a KB-084 just sold for $50 a couple weeks back. (no, I didn't buy it, but I could have...) Search often, and don't expect to find a deal if you use "blue Alps" ...

As one who ran a surplus/recycling business I probably have a slightly different perspective on this. Well I just got the keyboard a few minutes ago, and compared to what it shows on the wiki, It looks like I got the proper complicated switches. I will say, I didn't expect the iso layout and I'm not quite sure how I feel about it. I have notes on 38 Ultra-T Northgates, all Gen3 with serial numbers ...

Re: Looking at buying a Omnikey Ultra T with whites, but I have no idea if they are simple or complicated switches

Not for sure. If you have the numbers from the bottom label I can tell you approximately when it was built. It's probably a Gen3 Northgate, with dipswitches under the emblem on the upper left corner. Most of those will have complicated white Alps, but very late Gen3 or Gen4 could have simplified Alp...
