IRC is hard to use on phones? my experience with it was pretty hassle free from what I remember.

Podworld PD-101-OM

This one isn't great, but on the plus side it also was cheap so that's something. I got it for research as I suspected some things about it that ended up not being true https://i.imgur.com/O7nfCqu.jpg https://i.imgur.com/ZsHCIYk.jpg These pics are from the listing, and as you can see it clearly isn'...

Re: Golden Key GK-928 [light blue Aruz]

Remembered to take a picture of the caps to compare them to caps from another board. https://i.imgur.com/1s2Pxqw.jpg Bottom: GK-928, Top: PDC-101 The PDC-101 uses the same caps as KPT, JTC, Focus, and Omnikey boards so I'll be calling them "Focus" caps here. As you can see, the GK-928 cap has a "she...

Re: Golden Key GK-928 [light blue Aruz]

Unfortunately no, I have no idea what these keyboards were for. these come from e-waste piles and had the cables cut so I don't even know what sort of connector these would have used. The save/load jacks do imply that these were used alongside cassettes which would make sense for home computing, but...

Re: Golden Key GK-928 [light blue Aruz]

the plastic plate was a curve ball for sure. I was expecting either a metal plate or a separate plastic one, not an integrated plastic plate. I think it contributes to the sound quite a bit, the PCB isn't especially flexible and screws into the top case in like 8 places so it isn't especially bouncy...

Golden Key GK-928 [light blue Aruz]

https://i.imgur.com/VmAdWyc.jpg Got this board in the mail today as I've never tried aruz switches and the layout was cute. They're not the normal aruz switch, as these are light blue and don't have a logo on the bottom so I have no idea how these may/may not differ from the more typical blue aruz....

Oshima KBC-2800 [SKCC XT-layout fuckery]

Just got this in the mail. I have been excited for this as it's an SKCC board that I didn't already have and this one appears to be completely unknown. https://i.imgur.com/gOa6v8U.jpg From what I can tell the badge sticker says Oshima but I have no idea what it went to, who actually made it, or lite...

Re: Need help with using a soarer's converter with a MX Style KB-5150-1 model F clone

@ Zrrion: Doesn’t Soarer’s converter wait to hear from the keyboard, recognising XT protocol, before outputting that text? It’d be remarkably dumb if it did it for a null connection. Although you’re right that XT is strictly unidirectional, Soarer’s can still *listen* to it, before reporting the bl...

Re: Need help with using a soarer's converter with a MX Style KB-5150-1 model F clone

The Keyboard ID and Code Set are correct for an XT keyboard, so the converter is at least talking to it. Point of order here, XT isn't actually capable of receiving anything from the soarers, so the converter can't talk to an XT board, only listen to it. Soarers has no way to tell the difference be...

Re: Early ALPS timeline

yeah, no idea when those fit into the timeline, but they are indicative that TI was willing to commission ALPS for switches instead of getting already available product. It is again not proof, but it kinda supports some of my reasoning. If more was known about those in general or more of them were o...

Re: Early ALPS timeline

Now, while I do think this timeline makes a lot of sense, there isn't a lot of evidence here. For instance, where is the hypothetical SKCM brown TI prototype board? What if the Prototype TI board has a normal SKCL green LED switch for caps lock? How were these decisions for a system from 1984 effect...

Early ALPS timeline

I have been considering the early ALPS timeline recently, namely in the design transitions from SKCC to SKCM/SKCL and in so I have developed a theory for how the switch came to be. Before we can get to that though we need to look at the predecessor: SKCC. Pre-SKCL/SKCM: SKCC appears to have been int...

Re: Lubing rod stabilizers?

Alps themselves lubed these from the factory, something thin and light from the looks of it. I don't have any recommendations for lube type. Another option is getting a very light (thing 5 grams) spring to go around the rod. This is how brother typewriters handle their rod stabilizers and I feel it ...

If I want to contribute to the wiki, I want to do it damn right, and I don't think I'm up to stuff in either ability or effort to do so. Re: Glorious GMMK Pro review (Glorious Pandas)

Can't compare the GMMK to contemporaries since he doesn't have any, can't really let it stand on its own merits since he got the options that negates the gasket (which is one of the selling points). Video could have been summed up as "aluminum block, modern MX, I don't like those" and had just as mu...

the top housings just clip in to the top plate, you can unclip them from the top and pull the housing out that way. if yours don't clip into the plate in that way it would be unusual

Hope they don't just put it in a bubble mailer envelope. I've received keyboard confetti from sellers trying to cheap out on shipping that way. that was sold with an offer, not at listed price. If you make an offer on a listing with that available you'll get an email from ebay saying what it actually sold for.
