Re: Lubing rod stabilizers?

Alps themselves lubed these from the factory, something thin and light from the looks of it. I don't have any recommendations for lube type. Another option is getting a very light (thing 5 grams) spring to go around the rod. This is how brother typewriters handle their rod stabilizers and I feel it ...

Re: Cherry DCA Irmakey

If I want to contribute to the wiki, I want to do it damn right, and I don't think I'm up to stuff in either ability or effort to do so. It is way better IMO to get a halfassed start on the wiki than nothing at all. Anyone can clean the page ul later after all, but no one can document stuff then do...

Re: Glorious GMMK Pro review (Glorious Pandas)

Can't compare the GMMK to contemporaries since he doesn't have any, can't really let it stand on its own merits since he got the options that negates the gasket (which is one of the selling points). Video could have been summed up as "aluminum block, modern MX, I don't like those" and had just as mu...

the boards existed outside of that application, so it is possible, but still very unlikely. I have seen exactly one on ebay.

IIRC the noble yellow has the spring from a box white, with the clickbar from the pink, so the force curve should be pretty similar

Re: Silver Reed Typewriter [Dome and Slider]

the top housings just clip in to the top plate, you can unclip them from the top and pull the housing out that way. if yours don't clip into the plate in that way it would be unusual

those are pad printed caps, switches are a 4 tab clone of some sort. I did have a version of that board at one point with SKBM grey but I guess yours is a later version since it has clones. chassis is nice IMO

Re: Space Cadet Keyboard on eBay

Hope they don't just put it in a bubble mailer envelope. I've received keyboard confetti from sellers trying to cheap out on shipping that way. I once received a KPT board from the Ukraine that was just wrapped in bubble wrap and tape. KPT boards are built out of basically nothing so I was surprise...

mystery calculator switch [Magnetic Reed]

Seller says they purchased these switches loose in a mason jar, so IDing them is unlikely unless I stumble upon them independently. https://i.imgur.com/bstfrwJ.jpg https://i.imgur.com/8Ve7FSh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/AR2EtD1.jpg It is a very tall, cap is thick doubleshot, and the reed's return chirp ...

that was sold with an offer, not at listed price. If you make an offer on a listing with that available you'll get an email from ebay saying what it actually sold for. I'll sometimes send 3.50 offers even though I know it'll get auto declined just to see what the actual sale price is. I didn't do it...

The melting point of zinc is low enough that it might be possible to home make a sand cast and pour your own mold. Would be an incredibly cool project for sure.

Wiki maintenance and uploading and General keyboard related research are both pretty interrelated I would say, and with how few people are currently working in this area it might be a good idea to merge them together for a "Documentation and research" award or something of that sort

Re: Deskthority Awards discussion

DT badges styled after a few of the cooler keyboard badges would be very cool. A zenith black badge style DT thing would be great. I don't personally even care if there is an award of any sort so long as the awards actually happen (we might want to include stuff from last year since there weren't any)

And about the machines themselves, they are both entirely functional, in good cosmetic shape with switches in good condition, and their function is fairly strait forward. The Cherry has a memory feature that is handy enough, but considering I never used that sort of thing before the age of smartphon...

And on to the Cherry D12-24A. I saw this one while the Olympia was still shipping to me and that sort of clued me in on what the switches were. I was hoping it would be a switch predating gold crosspoint, but very early gold crosspoint is just as well. These are certainly the cleanest examples I hav...

I've been interested in adding machines and calculators and the like for a while now, basically anything with a high probability off having interesting, novel, rare, or otherwise undocumented switches.
