Re: Total Destruction Suggestions Requested

No point in destroying something that's still good. How about selling it and sending him the money, so he at least recovers some of his investment.

Re: Wooden keycaps

I checked Etsy again and there are a few people selling wooden keycaps, including whole sets.
By the few that have pictures showing the reverse of the keycap, it looks like a plastic stem is simply glued to the wood, probably with some kind of epoxy.

Re: Wooden keycaps

I have seen a few on Etsy, but usually as one novelty key, not a whole keyset.

It would not be a thing for me, but that's just my personal taste. There could be many people who would buy them.

I was kidding. I have seen a few like that on eBay, but they are usually pretty expensive for something that I can't use, despite looking awesome.

Considering how movies are made today, my bet is everything we see in the scene is entirely CGI and was never built as a physical prop.

I think that's some sort of theatre device, or something along those lines. They seem to sell for a lot, although that one looks a bit out of shape.
Yeah, it came from a surplus lot. It's missing a few keys. I have no way to test it

Not exactly a keyboard but...

I have this thing among the ton of junk I want to get rid of to make my wife's life easier after I die.
Anyone here has a use for it? It would be a shame to just dump it. I don't know what it is, but it has keys...
Any takers?

Re: Why are you into keyboards?

Keyboards are kind of the exception there. A good quality 20-yeard-old mechanical keyboard can still be used today. I guess that's part of the charm. A good 40 year old keyboard can still be used today! They're harder to find, but they're tanks ! At 20 years old, a keyboard is only just getting sta...

Cyrilic or Greek keycaps.

I'm looking for black backlight keycaps that have Latin letters, but also another (could be either Russian or Greek, as long as they have the Latin letter and an alternative one on each key) I found some at Amazon that looked good, but they were poorly made, one of the keys broke after less than a w...

Re: Why are you into keyboards?

It's not an easy question. I have been into computers in general for a very long time. I love all kinds of hardare, old and new. But most hardware doesn't have a very long useful life. You can collect vintage monitors or CPU's, but they don't have much use beyond being a valuable antique. Keyboards ...

"Food grade" = safe , i.e. does not leech chemicals into its surroundings. "Food grade" plastics is important when you have drinking cups, cake moulds, etc. But this is yet another example of when the info sheet for a cheap item contains unnecessary bullet points. This is similar to when a mechanic...

That's an archeologic project there. I think the plastic part are the only thing that can be salvaged. At least the keycaps. But all that was metal there is beyond restoration.

Great job!

There are kits that allow you to convert an old mouse to optical usb one.
Here is a video on how to convert an old Apple mouse, but I guess with a little work it could be used on different old models.

Cherry domes? (G86-62401EUAISA)

I found this keyboard at a thrift store. It says HP on the front, but the back label says "Cherry" so I assumed I had scored a mechanical keyboard. (silly me) It doesn't seem to have switches. It looks like a dome under there? Anyone knows what kind of keyboard it is? I don't want to disassemble it,...
