Re: Future of DT

OneCommerce overpaid badly. And as many have said: DT’s value has only gotten worse on their watch. At least they’re willing to take the hit, though. Much better to let it go than languish. One of my other things is photography and photo forums that are much busier than this place have been droppin...

Re: Future of DT

I'm not rally up to date on the drama surrounding ellipse, are they related to the Model F Reproduction project? I kind of took a break when that was getting going. I run my entire operation in containers/VMs (mail, web, Nextcloud, gitea, etc) and don't need 64GB of RAM. The idea that this board nee...

Re: Future of DT

As usual, it's the bad actors that are ruining things for everyone. Whether they are overreacting or not is debatable, but what's pretty obvious is that all of these rules and restrictions that they are implementing are in place in order to curb junkmail. Such a pursuit is a constant cat-and-mouse ...

Re: Future of DT

Everything I've ever experienced with gmail is if you don't have SPF and DKIM you're going nowhere. I think my domains that I don't care about as much where I haven't added DMARC records are still deliverable with just that. I've was a pretty early adopter of all three and Gmail still sometimes bin...

Re: Future of DT

There were some site bugs with registration I remember, especially with certain domain names like gmail, for example. This isn't an issue with the site or server. This is a DNS issue...one that has been discussed here in the past, would likely take 5 minutes to fix, but current owners don't seem to...

Re: Future of DT

The recent several days downtime was long enough to finally get me on "DT" Discord. I’m just more at home on a forum with persistent state than live text. Same. Although, I love Deskthority's IRC channel. P.S. Since they are offering to sell the forum back to the community, the ball is really in ou...

The recent several days downtime was long enough to finally get me on "DT" Discord. It's… different. We complained about DT's hosting a lot and discussed archival, but keyboards not so much. I’m just more at home on a forum with persistent state than live text. Same, I still use IRC some but it's n...

Re: Has anyone Retrobrited an AEK or AEK II

Apple keyboards AEK and AEK2 are particularly prone to yellowing, if I am remembering correctly it is because of a high dose of fire retardant in the plastic recipe. Retrobrite is not without its risks, personally I would avoid it and just live with the yellow. They do generally change color pretty...

Re: Unicomp Mini M vs New Model M

I've got both and done videos on both . They are functionally the same keyboard outside of size. I haven't noticed any collisions on the full sized M's matrix that the Mini M fixes in piratical use but I'm not a huge gamer either. Personally I'd for the full size M given the cheaper price and numpad.

I've noticed the parent company has some job postings WRT to web dev. I don't know if I expect this place to stay as it is for much longer. These types always try to get their money back somehow.

I keep mine in a pile in the closet. They're mostly Mode Fs and Ms. They've survived worse. The Focus boards act as padding.

Re: Don't you feel like DT is dying?

My problem with Discord and Reddit (and most things modern internet to be fair) is that we've replaced open standards, self hosted/self determined software and protocols with products from companies hosted on their machines. As flawed as phpBB there is far more control over it by the community and a...

The problem is Richie Rich bought DT on a whim with the idea of making profit w/o first drafting a viable profit model. He doesn't want to change what DT is for fear of losing the base but won't be able to make profit w/o doing so. He needs to sell the site but I don't think he'll be able to make h...

Re: Bucking Springs, worth it?

The lack of media keys on the Unicomps and classic Ms don't bother me as I use cmus and mpv that can be mapped to other keybinds. So here's a thought, even if someone were interested in making an RGB buckling spring board would it be technically possible? I don't know a lot about modern RGB boards b...

Unicomp sheets ("blankets" in their parlance) are thin white latex, and are, in my opinion, the one positive innovation that Unicomp has made. I think that it adds a quality that I would call "crispness". I think the new mats improve the feel a bit but at the cost of the sound. Unicomps are more pi...

Re: Vintage Increases Value?

I've got a few 86-88 Ms in my collection and the sound is noticeable different from the plate but I think 80% of the sound difference between classic Ms and Unicomp Ms is down to fact they replaced the rubber sheet with a mylar one in the Unicomps. Hasn't happened to me personally, but a few on my subreddit and Discord have came across it. Unicomp has got back to some of those, believing it to be firmware issue and they're working on it. I found a few threads on Reddit too. Don at Unicomp got back to me today and said they're working on a fix...
