Re: Out with the old, in with the new.

The Key Tronic's plate holes are a tiny bit bigger than Cherry MX, so that PCB is going to be needed. I keep a Key Tronic plate as template for cutting foam dampener to put in-between PCB and plate. :) Yes, it's going to be held in place with standoffs and I will drill the holes in the original pla...

Re: Why are alps keyboards not as popular?

to reply to OP, the reason why Alps aren't more popular is because SKCM died in the 90s, and their switches after that were not good, so no one bothered to use them. and clones are bad, as long as they will be simplified, no one (read as : a significant mass of people) will be interested in them "S...

Re: Why are alps keyboards not as popular?

I’d rather harvest a worthless , badly built aek keyboard with good switches than make a new board with clone switches. Aek are also common as dirt. I don’t see how it makes people “immature kids” to harvest a very common source of good switches that are stuck in a shitty housing forever They are n...

Re: Why are alps keyboards not as popular?

There are quite a few Alps clones still in production (Hua-Jie, Tai-Hao, and Matias/Gaote, all have their strengths and weaknesses) There is a lack of keycap sets and chassis/PCBs available. Tai-Hao would likely make any Alps keyset in any color imaginable, but there is a MOQ of 100+ sets which peo...

Re: Why are alps keyboards not as popular?

There's also other good switches, like SMK.
SMK still exists and perhaps they still have their old tooling? I don't think anyone has checked but there are still large stashes of new old stock SMK switches.

Re: Datalux Space Saver keyboard review (MEI T-15)

I think why Keytronic F&F is so scratchy is because the housings deform over time. They made way too snug a fit between the housings and the cutouts.

Re: Signature Plastics custom doubleshots - Great experience!

Glad to see that these are still useful! Screw you, vintage black harvesters!
Any chance on getting them to make a full replacement set for Wyses (or at least the spacebar and nonstandard keys)? I'd buy a couple.

Re: Stuff you just bought

Tried the Packard Bell board out today, it uses light blue Futaba switches with grey in spacebar. They feel and sound like buckling springs but less tactile. Overall OK.
Edit: some of the switches are white.

Re: Old keyboard replacement rubber domes

Oh I was under the impression that this was a regular Keytronic rubber dome. Actually right now I'm converting a Keytronic Foam&Foil (regular fullsize ANSI) to use MX switches. Since the plate cutouts are slightly too large to clip the switches in I'm going to have to suspend the PCB off the plate w...

Re: Old keyboard replacement rubber domes

I was thinking more along the lines of Topre-style capacitive domes but I am not really sure how to accomplish it.

Perhaps BKE Light domes can be used and a 3D printed part could be made to push down on the existing membranes.

Re: Old keyboard replacement rubber domes

We ought to convert this to use BKE domes and a really thin capacitive PCB to replace the membrane. I don't know anything about capacitive PCBs though.

Do the keycaps have standard Cherry stabilizers? If so perhaps a new plate and PCB can be made.

7u cherry profile white ABS spacebar

I am in need of a Cherry profile 7u white ABS spacebar. The original one on the Leading Technology board I'm refurbishing has a non-standard size stabilizer (I converted it to plate mount with GMK stabs)

Re: Modern Beamspring? - The Silo Beam Switch

It's kind of bad that this switch has nothing to secure it to the PCB which will make it near-impossible to convert some existing chassis to work with these. Wish they thought to put in dummy solder pins or screw inserts.
