IBM Model F XT smoothness.
Hi all! I am currently typing on my Model F XT which I recently cleaned. The switches are exceptionally smooth except when i slowly press a key on the corner (off-center) there seems to be a little bit of gripiness going down on most all of they keys, especially the spacebar. I did not separate the ...

Re: Futaba MA switch plate stuck
It probably isn't much help, but this page shows what's inside the MA switches: http://www.kbdmania.net/xe/review/1274536 If the springs are rusted or broken there's not much you can do but replace the bad switches. Yeah, might just look for a doner board or just use the good switches in this board...

Re: Futaba MA switch plate stuck
The method where you mash it… sounds like Matias customer support’s prescription for their flaky, chattering switches. Not good advice, if you ask me. I’ve heard it doesn’t fix their dddodgy switches for long anyway. It’s more a placebo to give their users something to do besides return their defec...

Re: Futaba MA switch plate stuck
I’m having trouble with my Packard Bell board with Futaba MAs in it. The switches all had varying degrees of clickiness when i first got it. I did the method where you press down hard on the slider and it fixed most of the switches but there are quite a few i unintentionally made completely linear....

Re: More durable switches?
Myself, I have an unfortunate tendency to like switches that happen to be rather vulnerable to dust xD . This greatly complicates getting suitable keyboards! Pick your poison i suppose. I do want to try a board with vintage cherrys, I will be looking out for one for sure. Hopefully one of these day...

Re: More durable switches?
More specifically, with "durable" do you mean "dust-resistant" or "not likely to fail"? Should have been more specific, I'm primarily talking about vintage switches that have good dust resistance. Reliability and not feeling like like crap when a board has been heavily used is also a plus. After I ...

Most durable vintage switches?
I have accumulated various vintage mechs and most of the switches with the exception of IBM's buckling springs seem to have a varying degree roughness due to dirt, dust and over-use. None are NOS, but many are very clean and there are still keys where you can tell there is a little bit of dust and p...

Re: IDENTIFY THE KEYBOARD thread
The Digitran will be their Golden Touch switch. It's presumably their Z-leaf spring design, which was the older version. They're a very interesting switch - if mine wasn't in such bad condition, and if I could actually use the board, I'm pretty sure I'd like it a lot :) . Yep those are the switches...

Re: IDENTIFY THE KEYBOARD thread
Hello all! I recently made a trip to a local recycling center and picked up a few boards and these strange boards for FREE. I cant seem to find too much information on them, wanted to see if anyone had any knowledge on them.. :D The Honeywell board seems to have some sort of rubber domes in it and t...

Actually the IC in the picture appears to have a late 1986 date code Someone refurbed it. The keyboard mechanism is older than the cable and case. Are there particular numbers you are looking at that indicate a manufacture date? I was wondering if this is just newly manufactured for an older termin...

Still pretty confused but IBM has so much overlap in parts and other weird things. I'm still thinking it is a refurb or a new one made...

It may be a refurb. It would be odd for IBM or Lexmark to go back to the thick heat-treated backplate and silver badge. I was actually wrong about the date on the pcb. I mistook the 1991 for a date but i saw several other earlier models with a 1991 in the numbers on the label. I cant find any date ...

I have 2 similar terminal boards with the silver badge. They are both marked 1390636. On is dated 1992 and the other 1995. The earlier has an IBM label and the later a Lexmark label. The bottom half of the case on the later one is slightly different as the center hole above the label is missing. IB...

May be that the case bottom shell was swapped. How do both ends of the cable connect? Side into the keyboard is fixed and the plug is a 240 degree 5 pin din. All of the internal components that have a date say 1990 or 1992 so I'm not sure how it would have all of these early model m features with t...

Help identifying Model M!
Hey guys, i picked up this 1992 Model M 102 terminal keyboard. The seller posted a picture of a silver badge terminal m like the one i recieved but the manufacture date was 1987. (The seller listed three in stock so I’m assuming he had three that looked like these) This one says 1992 which confuses ...
